4 speed means 3000 rpm and 12 mpg. 5 speed means about 2100 rpm and maybe 16 mpg. I'd go with the 5

how many horsepower are you pushing? from what i hear the 5 speeds are fairly weak. also what gears are in the rear. my old 81 z28 only had 3.08 gears and would cruise at 2600 when going 70.

The T5 is limited to about 260 lb/ft of torque in a 3000 lb car unless you spend $$$ to beef it up, then maybe 300-330 lb/ft.

I bought an AutoGear Muncie M21 with .86 OD in 4th. They wouldn't say what it's rated for, but snickered at me when I said I expected 450 lb/ft in my combo. It sounded like they don't sweat anything short of 600 lb/ft.
This is using the super case, iron mid plate and all the improved gear sets and bearings. A stock M21 is probably limited to about 400 lb/ft, routinely.

In any trans, it's all about how hard you are on it.

the 5 speed was not offered by gm with a 350 only the 305. so to me that means tread lightly.
