I was lucky enough to find a 57 9 inch rearend for my Falcon from Brokenspoke .Only problem is i dont have time to go get it with all the overtime im working. Is there a Hamber that might be going towards North Texas from the Collage Station area any time soon ?If someone could just get it to a Hamber in the Dallas area i could run down after work one evening and get it ,thanks for your help...
I have a pick-up and live in North Ft Worth. I will be in San Antonio 3-25 to 26. (if that helps your search. Also might be able to locate a 9" in Ft Worth where i found mine. Sorry about not seeing you run at the thaw... You talked enought smack, I was sure you would have a hell of a ride. Let me know... Jay
Congrats Daniel.........glad you found one that fits.......I am sure someone will step up and give ya a hand getting it up here............I once bought a set of fenders for our Comet in Michigan...those things traveled across many state lines before winding up in Texas..lol Mark
Bill, you don't have any 'dusty/unwanted/good' 4-speed laying in a corner somewhere, do ya???? Big - broken - Ken
Yea, went through the 'let-down' of it being over, and need something to do. Maybe like build a damn flatty/race car, so I don't break mine, again. hehehehe Probably should do that, though. Nice little 'Merc' powered Bantam...
Man you are too nice to me .Not only are you hooking me up with the 9 inch that i need at a deal thats too good to be true , you are even helping me get it here .The Ranchero and i both are in your debt...
I have a crew heading to the dallas area monday morning can you get it has far has northwest houston sunday night around the hwy 290 area the only other catch is my crew will be coming back monday evening
I can have it in Friendswood Sunday nite...we can meet then???or I'll be at the Dark Horse Sunday around 2 ish
If it doesn't work out & you can wait a couple weeks, I'll be @ Texas World Speedway(College Station) racing 3/14 - 3/16. I could get it back to Denton for you.
Im keeping it as of now.Its like an f'n quest .I am gunna get this car to run a high 12 in the 1/4 at the Hamb drags next summer or a low 8 in the 1/8 ,with the motor and trans it has in it currently.Oh yeah ,and i will drive there and back .If the 9 inch has 3.90 or lower gears in it, i will just replace the seals and bearings in it ,mini spool it and put a hardened cross pin in it and go.If i have to change the gears ,im gunna get another pod and put some 4.30's or 4.56's in it and i will change the pods at the Ramada in the parking lot race and then change it back.Im getting real fast at changing gear pods by myself...
For real? ****, I just sent my old man out this morning at 5 am, with my trailer, he was going all the way to Kansas to pick up his Duece 5w. He was stopping in Dallas to pick up my new racer box for my trailer. Dang this could have easily happened today. Shoot, sorry, I guess I need to get on here more often. Just don't sort though the 10 pages of posts a day like I used to. Sorry man!
Thats okay ,it will work out one way or another.Ive been driving the Falcon to work and back all week with a patched up 8 inch ,so its not like im in a pinch for the 9 inch rearend ,but im anxious to get busy rebuilding it so i can go racing again. Are you and your husband the ones with the primered A pickup that i talked with at the Day of the drags last fall?
I'm a dude, man, no husband, but I do have a wife. LOL Easy to get people confused on here. No, I drive the silver bagged '58 Chevy fleetside pickup, or a Blackcherry Mild Custom '65 Rivi. I feel bad about missing this though. I know Bill and could have met him after work like we've done before. Literally strapped it on the trailer and you would have had it by 10 am this morning. Day late dollar short, story of my life.
You my want to hook up with BJSracing (Jason) over on Mopowerstyle and several other boards. He is making a round trip from DFW to Houston very soon. Posted a message over on Mopowerstyle about it. Offering to help transport parts. Here is a link. http://www.mopowerstyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85799 Lots of Mopowerstyle folks lurk here. I know I have been for a while, and every so often someone on Mopowerstyle posts a refrence to the HAMB. Jason works over at Painless. Good dude that helped us set up a Dave Morgan Ch***is Cl*** here in Houston, and is also working on one up in the DFW area. -Dave
Im pretty sure that it is a small bearing 9 inch in a 57 car,but the the bearing caps and bolts on the third member are stronger and pysically bigger (i think) than an 8 inch.I believe the more i look at the busted parts from the 8 inch ,that it was the bearing cap that failed first and that was what made the axle snap as others have pointed out to me and i think they are right ,and i think the other axle twisted when all of the power got put on it after the other one broke .Either way an upgrade was in order and there is no point spending another cent on an 8 inch .I mainly want to use this 9 inch cus i wont have to mess with cutting and welding spring pads or getting it narrowed to fit.Plus the axles already have the small wheel bolt pattern to fit my wheels instead of the 5 on 5 1/2 from a pickup.I will upgrade the crosspin and spool it ,plus i will proly get some aftermarket axles for it before the Hamb Drags this summer...
Not sure Danny, but the bolts were still tight . I dont think the wheel hop in the first few runs helped it.On the other hand i have wheel hopped it worse in the past many times and it never broke.I know people will argue the fact but i believe when i clamped the traction bar snubbers against the springs before that run is what did it (it wasnt able to spin the tires at all).It lunged like hell and stuck like glue when i powershifted second gear.I dont see how if i broke it on a previous run that i was able to finish at 83 mph in the lights on the run before without a hitch ,besides i launched at about 4500 off the line and i never heard a peep out of it until i grabbed second gear.It seems like if it was hanging by a thread that i would have noticed something off the line and all the way through first gear.I guess i will never know for sure ,but it was time for an upgrade to a 9 inch anyway.I am just glad that i didnt tear it up at Temple ,cuz i would have been up a creek 250 miles from home...
