  3. Hmmm, Unimog? They were called the 'Easy Bog' for a good reason in the Army!

  4. I like the woodie idea- not exactly inexpensive, but it would be a neat build!

That done right as a Woodie would take the spotlight at all the events and cruises for along time.

  6. Dinky Corp made a roadster version of the Chrysler Airflow many years ago that looked pretty nice- if I can find a picture, I'll post it.

  8. Here are a couple pics- the windshield isn't that great, but the body shape has pretty nice lines:

The windshieldless roadster was my original thought. Maybe using some kind of early coupe ***.

How about an open top roadster with a wooden "boat tail" speedster style?

That would be kind of kick *** :)

I wish I was good enough with photoshop to try some of these styles out like that woodie picture. I'd like to see a roadster and a boattail version. I think the art challenge would be good for this...but then again...i'm biased. I'll take some more pix when it comes home with me on the way back.

I'd like to see it built as a truck with a custom sloped back bed similar to the Kopper Kart.

Just finished this, I think it has potential as a roadster.

As an aside, a wooden boat-tail speedster is called a "skiff", a style originated by French coach builder Jean Henri Labourdette and VERY traditional. This might be a very good idea for the Airflow.

  21. hey scoob, if i were you i would give it to me. ha ha. the problem with a pick-up conversion is, well, it looks like a pick-up conversion. the woodie idea sounds appealing ,but expensive. the roadster idea looks good. find the rear fenders from an airflow add them to the roadster rear end and you maybe able to make it look like it belongs.

nah... a woodie is only spendy if you dont have the machines and tooling

This is a very good read regarding skiff speedsters:

    http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/default.aspx?carID=10355&eventID=96&catID=680&whichpage=

Note how light these bodies were:

"When the body was put on the scale the needle registered 180 kg (approximately 400 pounds) to the great admiration of the experts. This weight comprised the body, the windshield, the four fenders, the running boards (or step plates), spare wheel carrier, upholstery, the floorboards of grooved mahogany (they were elegant, light and we saved the weight of carpet). The ribs of the hull were exposed, thus we also saved the weight of interior trim."

"It must be considered that the very unique appearance of a skiff body would be appealing to certain potential owners who needed to have something different, something no one else had. Skiff construction fulfilled this desire, but above all, it was possible to save weight, and that was tantamount to adding power to the engine concurrent with providing a new look. One could have an automobile of singular appearance that was more powerful than an automobile with a standard body."

Sounds like a hot rod to me. :)
