I have a set of 1935 Ford 16" x 4" wire spoke wheels to use on my rpu. What are the typical size tires to use on the front and on the back? Something like 6.00-16 on the front? Don't know about the rear, but I have noticed from pictures of others that the rear tires are usually bigger in diameter and fatter (or wider), so, maybe a 7.00-16 or 7.50-16? Thanks, Roger
i ran 5.50 fronts and 8.50 rears on the tub i built 8.50's are about 33' tall i ran 16x4 fronts (42-48 ford wheel) and wide 5's on the rear tk
it depends on the look you're going for..but i always like the look of about a 5 inch height difference between the front and rear tires.
not sure my guess is 4 inches i think they are different depending on weather it was a v8-60 car or a v8-85 car tk
You can run up to a 7.50 tire on your 4" wheels although a lot of folks don't recomend it. My personal opinion is a 7.50 is too "cheeky" on that narrow a rim. It gives it a baloon, kind of cartoony look. When I swaped out the rolling stock on the T I went with 7.00 Firestones and 5.50 Excellsiors both from Coker. These are on stock '35 wires. Pics worth a thousand words so here is a side shot.
Check the Speedway Motors catalog, especially their Late Model racing catalog in the wheel section. They sell wide 5 centers to fit 15" shells to almost any width you want, depends on the "look" you're after. They need to be ***embled on a truing stand, then welded by a competent welder. Otherwise you'll have to split your 4" rim, add 2 - 3" band, truing stand, competent weld, if going the 16" route. G.V.Gordon is right (IMHO). A 7.50 looks "right" on a 7" wide rim.
7.50x16's in the rea5 and 4.50/4.75 16's up front... There nothing better looking on a hot rod than this combination...
I looked at ALOT of photos and prefer a more conservatrive approach so I choose 600/700 combo for my A rpu. BUT those 16 in wires look really good with larger rubber...
