I started hanging the sheet metal back on the '38 last weekend. The grille is in decent shape but I'd like something cleaner. Anyone have pix of alternates? I was thinking of removing the vertical bars then replacing the horizontal bars with continuous pieces.
IMO without the vertical bars to break-up the grill area (and only using horizontal bars) the grill is going to look much larger. They're already quite large and if I was going for something other than stock, I would look to make the grill appear smaller. - em
I have dozens and dozens of pictures of 38/39 grills but it isn't something you see modified very often. Here's the best I could do - these appear to be filled in although the second might just be a 39 Personally, I like the 38 grill as is just fine!
You may already know this, but the '39 grille has a single centre bar and is cleaner looking than the '38 grille right off the bat. Maybe try to find a pic of a '39 grille and photo-shop the centre bar out ?
The grill on the 38 and 39s sorta makes the truck. I also think that down bars would look pretty damn good like glmarkie said If you went that way
97flatrat Thanks for the pix. Like the looks of the white one. I have a spare grille that the farmer used as a bumper in the fields. I agree with the comments about the vertical bars making a difference in apparent size but I think I'll sacrifice the beat up grille in the name of experimentation. I'll be hard pressed to make it look any worse.
i think if you put the verticles close to each other it wouldnt make it look larger, gotta say though that red one looks sweet
