I'm about ready to get some things chromed and I REALLY want to work with HAMBers. Yet I find no Chromers on the HAMB. How can that be? Surely I am mistaken.
English Custom Polishing is an alliance vendor and they have a chrome shop. I've emailed them a couple of times with measured pictures of my parts to be chromed, and they've never responded. So I'd like to find a chrome shop too.
I tell ya what, I'll sing the praises of Advanced Plating all the time so this is going to be no exception. They SHOULD be alliance vendors for as well as they treat me and ALOT of others on here. Quick story, I just got back 11 pieces from them yesterday. I was suppose to pick them up at the Autorama next Wed. They shipped them to be at no charge so I wouldn't have to scramble at the last minute installing everything on Big Olds while at the show. Get this, sent to me BEFORE I even paid for it with a note that says "pay Steve at the show". How cool is that. AWESOME custoemr service.....and the pieces are flawless. Oh yeah, he's had them less then 30 days. Dave Shuten is THRILLED with AP's work and so is MercDueceMan, both of who just got pieces back that are going on cars for the Detroit Autorama. The shop will work with you! 800-588-6686
Pretty sure I talked to him once or twice but there is a limit on length. Small tank. Sure, I'll send the smaller stuff to a HAMBer who can swing it but I'd like to find someone wo can do it all....
rashy, my dad ran across a name that does chrome in claremore, the other day. i doubt he is hamb friendly but he is close to you. his name is Joe Wells, if you need his number pm me.
I was looking to chrome my garnish moldings, so they're probably too big then. You'd think they'd at least respond though.
Pretty sure Advance is in Tenn... I have heard GREAT things about them. I am looking for a chrome shop as well for grilles I make....
Hmmmm, Sounds like the guys to use. I'll have to check the local place. I had no idea there was someone in Claremore. That's close! What did you get chromed Denise?
Joe at Wells Chrome Plating did all the plating and polishing on the coupe, including the aircraft seats. His # is 371-2551. He's 5 miles from my house. He's in Collinsville, not Claremore.
I have had chrome from two platers in the Tulsa area that I used on a couple of cars that I worked on. It looked good to me. I will PM you my phone number and you can call during the day tomorrow or any day as I have the names and phone numbers at the shop. John
What I just got back were all the dash knobs and steering column pieces. Advanced did my tailight bezels, fender spears, gauage cluster, glovebox door, huge center section on my dash, and the most stunning pieces, the grill over the last few years. The did every single chrome piece on my Dad's '56 as well as a number of his other Oldsmobiles thru the years. Keep in miund, and I learned this the hard way, you get what you pay for. Especially true with chrome platers.
advances' quality is second to none thats for sure. the draw backs i've run into are, turn around time. i've known guys to finally demand their parts back after a year or so they get them returned just like they sent them. and price, but, as denise said you get what you pay for. maybe they've got the time thing under control sounds like denise had a good experience.
Are you looking for "street" chrome or are you willing to pay for "show" chrome?....... there is a difference...
I'll just send you my chrome and let you send it in for me!! i saw some pics of the olds on another thread and it looks great. i hope when your at the show they will put it in Rod and Custom or some other big publication. after all of the hard work it deserves it!!
From your typing fingers to Kevin Lee's reading eyes. Actually Kevin hasn't said anything but I have been approached by a couple of other national publications so we'll see.
I just finished painting a pro stocker for a local guy who was raving about a plater in Collinsville. Don't know if it was the same guy, but how many platers could there be in Collinsville? I only saw a few pieces, but what I saw really looked good. Considering how much this kat is putting into appearance (more than most racers), I doubt he'd settle for ****. I'll be talking to him in the next few days, I'll ask if its the same guy and pm ya. On the other hand, I have heard of Advanced Plating myself, I'm not use, but maybe through Hot Rod Garage. I just remember they were spoken of well, and they sure have a following on here, so they might be a good choice. Basically, I haven't helped you at all have I?
How's this for the name of the magazine article ***le: The Popped Top Pleaser. I can see it now, on the cover with you playing the *** bongo's on some poor 23 year old model trying to start his acting career in front of some BBQ joint in BFE Oklahoma. Of course, Megan will be there dressed like a newsie taking pictures and helping to write it up for your adventure postings! Sorry. Got off track. Back to the chrome and hairy Turkish guys. Can anyone say 'Midnight Express?'
Yes, I did R&C's Asphalt Ego-Rama in the fall of 2005. It was the last one they had. The March issue had the article about it along with a full feature on Big Olds.
a) what do you need to have chromed? b) what is your time frame? The next time you're in town (coming down for Roundup?...probably not...) I can show you what I've had done. It's all been pretty reasonable and hasn't taken forever. Local place...."Pops" asked me about them for the both of you. Don't know if he shared the information. These last pieces I had to have them do twice...they can only work with what you give them, and don't really want to leave it in the copper very long (but they will if you tell them to, which i did the second time around). There are still pits in them (left from my welding) but they aren't horrible. Keep in mind all these pieces are one off fabbed stuff, factory parts would probably turn out better. The price wasn't bad I guess. $80 for the pair. Some other stuff they've done too. You could send it to me and I can take it to them. Mark's guy is ok. He made Tyler a KILLER deal on straightening out all the stainless on the Aquamino. I wasn't completely impressed with the chrome work itself, but I didn't see what he had to start with either. At the shop we sent a bunch of stuff off to Advanced for plating. Front and rear bumpers, head and tail light bezels, grill, turn signal bezels, a couple other small pieces....$10,000. No joke. It's really nice stuff, but the price was a little high I thought. We made the bumers one piece (they were three piece, '55 chevy), and you can still see where the split is, so they didn't smooth it out perfect either.
I used 5 different platers on the cad, advanced did the nicest job and was cheaper then several other places estimate. I have heard of the guy in oklahoma you all talk about. chrome is flying off of the back side of 1 of his bumpers, try diging those peices out of your chamous or micro cloth. better catch it before it scratchs the paint as well. and the bumper was redone by him 3 times. he doesn't do the actual plating either just the prep and finish, from what I hear. advanced plated the back side of my bumpers to look like the front side, very nice work ............
