My freakin alternator won't fit in my 40 coupe. Its a 283 mounted with front mounts and the alternator is hitting the inner fender and the fender flange itself. I'm using the brackets that mount to the header flange. Anybody got a line on a bracket system that will help me here? I thought about drive shaft mount but I think that will be a pain in the *** to run.

    Help me please

Total Performance, Speedway and others sell a bracket that mounts the alternator above the p***enger side of the intake manifold inboard of the valve cover. I think that would work for you unless your engine is mounted really high.
The bracket is a copy of what Chevy used on the V8 Monzas.

If you want to use the stock mounts make an angle iron mount to fit the exhaust manifold that rotates the mounting holes 90 degrees, or on top of the manifold. Bolt the alt. bracket to the mew mount and the alt. will fit.Make sure you keep everything in alignment so the belts run true.

Just Google "Alan Grove". Simple steel plate brackets that just work.

The smog pump bracket from a late 60's early 70's small block will set the alternator up above the water pump on the p***enger side. They came stamped or cast. You have to use a spacer behind the alternator and a long bolt. Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to rig an idler for belt tension. If I remember correctly this setup requires a short waterpump.

I used the Alan Grove low mount brackets for the alternator and the AC compressor on my '39 Ford coupe. I wanted them below the fenders and just cut out the inner fenders to make it work. Mike

    Stockerhotrod,
I re-read what I posted and I didn't mean to sound cr***. If you can draw up something for me with decent dementions I could whip something up for you outta aluminium (.25" or better). I guess I forget that I work in a machine shop.

Yea I was thinking about making some but I thought if somebody sold a bolton that was already engineered to fit below the fenders out in the inner fender thats what i would get. I'll check out Alan Grove....

    thanks guys
