Is it worth driving 3 hours each way? I haven't been in about 6 or 7 years, back when I couldn't afford to have any projects. Not really looking for anything in particular, but I'd like to have cash if the swapmeet & vendors set-up is worthy. I may go to take in the sights and grab a few pics. Is anyone going?
Heading down on saturday, I have not been there in a few years either. A local guy runs a bus down. Couldn't really tell you if its worth it or not, with the price of gas and $20 dollar admission. It all depends on the at***ude you take with the show. I just look at it as day to get out and see some cars. I know everybody else has a good time since they have been running a bus for a few years. I know its more of a show where you pretty much got to like everything.
Im headin down friday night, not that great of a thing to go to, no really kustoms atleast good ones, and anything decent it way too much money, the swapmeet isnt really good, basically vendors car wax and tri 5 chevy parts dealing and mustang dealers and what not... im going cause nothing else to do and i guess theres a slim chance there might be sumthing there that i need
I go every 3 or 4 years. We like to say, "it ****s, but something to do with cars in the winter". I do have to say, I've seen some nice stuff go off at auction for very reasonable prices! NOT like Barrett Jackson! But there's also a lot of high priced junk (bondo's up messes) that goes across the block, too. Might go Friday night, and see the swap/auction on Sat. I'm only an hour or so away.
I may go, Haven't made a def. decision though. Thought it would be cool to see a couple of cars I helped with go over the block. My buddy did the real work on them, I just did a few little things to help him out over the last few weeks. One is a yellow 71 cuda 440 six pack car and the other is a gold 71 buick GS convertible. Check them out if you go, the guy does flawless paint and body work.
If my buddies decide to go so that we can split the gas money, I'll probably go with low expectations. In the past I'd go solo but with the tolls and gas money it's not a cheap trip for me. I was there for the very first one back when it was a decent flea market. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. One of my best scores came at that show only a few years ago so you never know what you will find. It's 4 hours for me.
Thanks. I have 2 (maybe 3) buddies who want to go, so I guess I'm making the trip. Hopefully I'll find a score, but low expectations sounds like the way to go. Unionville - thanks for the advice, but I don't gamble anymore (unless you count buying cars & parts). Went to Vegas last fall, ended up putting $20 into a slot machine that paid me $1000. Figure if I never try it again, I can die on the "up" side. Haha! I beat the odds. Where in Davidsonville are you? My dad lives right off of Mt Airy Road. If my 3rd buddy backs out, you could jump in with us....
It ****s ***......Swapmeet okay if you need those ****py metal signs for the garage or umbrellas and scarves.....Oh, and the carbon monoxide is a treat
I live 10 minutes across the bay and I wouldn't go on a free ticket! ($20 to get in as a spectator=ripoff) First of all it isn't a show.....it's fa ucking auction and car corral, plain and simple.....they ran out all of the real parts sellers years ago by raising the space rents to *attract a higher level of vendor*........********......the small Flea Market is nothing more than SBC Chrome dress up items, videos, t-shirts, decals, dolls (yes, you heard me.....dolls), puppets, and the ever popular Chinese tool dealers........oh yeah......and the Bumper Boyz are usually there....... It blows.......unless you are looking to bid on cars.... CB
****s. it is a day out, but i have a story about every time i went. fumes also **** inside the place. its one thing when your at the track and a hot rod cruises by and you get the quick wiff of leaded race gas, gets you all hopped up, but they need to do somethign with the fumes in that place.
the fumes are the only part that say it's a car event. It's more like a really bad trade show with ***holes garage signs in every row and lots of sand paper and led lights. Lots of stock-styled cars for auction but usually nothing really cool. And the food ****s! This year it looks like there is actually going to be a car show in gloucester city NJ the same weekend that looks like a way better time to me. I think El Ray is putting it on with Deadbeaters.
Chrome for my SBC? Well I ought to go then! HAHA. Thanks Brucie. Hey in case I do decide to go, Where exactly is it?
Mike......yes!!! Go and get some chrome valve covers and a new chrome coil cover!!! But seriously folks.......it's at the Atlantic City Convention Center where the AC Expressway comes into town and the train station rolls right into the COnvention Hall.......Arkansas Avenue at the Xpressway...... You can't miss it........just follow the exhaust fumes! Here's the web site: http://www.accl***iccars.com/ Don't forget....they call it a show........I call it an auction! CB
Do the cars there go for bread? I mean I imagine that people bidding in person are more confident than someone on the internet. I was always wondering when it comes time to sell something off, is it worth trailering it down there? My girlfriend will go, dont have to ask her twice, and maybe I could even score some Merc bumpers while Im there! Hmm....
Hmmm.... (as he methodically strokes his beard) .....go to the Atlantic City Car Auction and get g***ed out with fumes and attacked by crybaby dolls? or attend The Gloucester "Garage Door Opener" Car Show and see some cool cars and art and have my Leg urinated on by The DeadBeaters C.C.? -well this is an easy one!
I was thinking about going Sunday, but Sunday looks like the weather is going to be relatively fair. Sunny and in the upper 40's. I'd rather be out working in my garage than in the convention center. Today would have been a different story. Its cold. The last time I was there I was about 12. I saw a midget race inside the convention center. I didn't mind the fumes that much then.
I agree with cuznbrucie. I live a little over an hour away and there is no way I am going. Between parking, admission, and high priced food, it is more expensive than any other "real" show. Plus it is an auction. Don't even bother walking towards the vendors, you'll just waste precious minutes of your life looking at ****! If your not a registered bidder, youll have to stand on your toes to see what is going up on the block. Just my opinion though.
