All of the above, except the mileage part.

  3. Google is your best friend to get basic information that a lot of us don't have at our fingertips. There is at least one Buick bulletin board, One of the magazines did an in-depth series a couple years ago. It should pop up under a nailhead search along with a lot of suppliers. Search eBay motors under 364 Buick, or 401 Buick or Buick nailhead. Kanters out in Jersey has engines parts a**** others.

I'm sorry, but doing your homework isn't asking us to school you.

go to www.buicks.net. register and they will more than skool you on nailheads . give it a try. beats doing home work..; ) as for your questions..yes yes yes and no..those dogs burn fuel like any other v8. egge, kanter and many other offer kits plus service to rebuild yer old pumps wich they are no longer avaliable new. ebay is a good place to find parts. if you dont use it then yer missing out. beware that it could get a bit pricey on there.

I got a 401 with 2x500cfm AFB's with a healthy cam sitting in a '55 Buick Special. I get about 15 mpg, if I keep my foot out of it.

There is plenty of info right here on the HAMB, most of it easily found with the search function. No need to go to the other boards as a lot of the same guys are right here...

This one should get ya started

yes they are reliable when done correctly. gas mileage is about the same as most v8's from that era. you can put a 700r4 or 200r4 on with an adapter. personally I'm not a big fan of adapters and the st400 or sp400 from 65-66 are great ******'s

Hunt around. The last 425 used the switch-pitch TH400.

The SP400 is a Nailhead bellhousing TH400 with a switch pitch torque converter. The TH400 came from the SP/ST 400's in the Buicks. The internals from the 65-66 are the same, the 64 has a different valve body.
