After another long week of detailing (thanks Kustom7777), touching up, bolting on trim, installing the interior last minute wiring, and such, we loaded the KArt onto the trailer to bring to be pinstriped by Jersey's greatest...Alan Johnson! It was late when we got it loaded up, so it was a bit dark for pics, but here's a couple. Looking forward to a couple days rest, then the trip to Detroit. Looking forward to having a car in an indoor car show for the first time, to tell you the truth. I never thought I'd ever have something in a show of this caliber! I'm nervous as a bridegroom, and anxious to see the reception she gets. Please stop by and say "Hello", I'd like to meet the HAMBers who have responded to our posts, and encouraged us in this build. It means more to me to have 2 or 3 guys, who know how much car building takes, to tell us how we've done, than to hear ooohs and aaaahs from the public, who couldn't possible know what it took to get her in this condition. If we can impress you guys, we've done it right (And no, it's not really done, we are going to go over some things, and change some others, to be more "correct" and better detailed, but most are minor items.) Really funny...check out VIc trying to drive it. His head is actually hitting the roof! And he's STILL all hunched over, with his knees in his chest! This car must have been driven by a midget! Oh, yeah, and we are still waiting for the waterjet people to deliver the lettering for the door. Had LOTS of trouble with suppliers, and desigers trying to get it all together . Supposedly the plastic letters will be delivered to our hotel on Weds. or Thurs., just in time to install for the show! It WILL look just like it did in 1958....
Wow that looks incredible! Wish I was coming to Detroit so I could see it in person. Great job on reproducing an iconic custom.
Looks great!!! Maybe I should sneak over the border to Alan's and get a sneak peak..........Hmmmm..........
This is the car i am most looking forward to seeing at autorama. been cool following the build. hope to meet you guys on set up night. congrats.
For all of Hambers that can't make the show,Please take tons of photos at the show!Great job to all you guys!
id like to thank you guys for lettin us in on this build, best thread award for sure, guys should be proud
WOW that is great!!!! Any chance of bringing out for some West Coast stuff? maybe GNRS next year??? John
Looks AWESOME guys!! It's funny to see Vic all hunched over and when you see the much shorter Barris driving it in the video from the Coachman show he looks rather comfy. Again, GREAT JOB GUYS! Hats off to you for setting deadline and doing whatever it takes to achieve that!
I really loved seeing this build until just now. I didnt realize the truck had a Monterey accessory wheel on it Now Im just jealous. Looks kick*** Mark! Last time I saw it it was in pieces all over the shop. Amazing its the same truck.
John, we are trying to sort out how to do something in CA next year, Vic even thought we might try to make it to Paso (Santa Maria) this year. But it's all up in the air, right now, the build took so much time and money, and going to CA for Paso is a HUGE expense for regular guys....either having it transported, and buying plane tickets, or the time (vacation) involved in trailering it out ourselves. Vic and I have both burned up almost half of our vacation time for the year, just trying to finish this up! If anything, we might see if we can get it on Larivee's circuit next year, and then try to get to GNRS, and Sacramento in January, in between his shows. Mazdaslam...we are going to see Alan on Sunday, around lunchtime, to check on progress, you can join us for lunch!
Those pics won't do, I'm going to have to see it in person at Autorama Is Vic 7 feet tall or is it THAT small inside? Flatman
Hey Mark ,looks great! Sorry I didnt have what it took to come through! Not striping this car was a defining moment in my life. However let me say this, the best man for the job did the job. Ill be back, not that I was ever there.
awesome job! must feel awesome that you built such an awesome truck. will the lake pipes be on it for detroit? how many dead baby cows did it take?!
Well actually... IT WAS!!! You've seen those Barris boys, they were lucky if they stood 5' 6". Does look a bit 'Land of the Giants' in there though! Awesome job, guys. Can't wait to see pics of it all tarted up for the show.
