I am looking for the aftermarket steel style of 1940 ford standard grill. Speedway has one but it is actually a 39 deluxe style. I may end up having to go that way. Someone was selling them on ebay last year, cant find him now though. Don't really want to pony up the 5-700 dollars for the Drake. Thanks in advance.
have you tried Vintique? i've used several of their `40 deluxe grilles and they were ok....not sure if they make a standard
I think the grill you're talking about looks like a '39 Deluxe without the holes for the trim. People use them on '40 Standards also. They are one piece compared to the 3 piece real '40 Standard grill. They aren't a true repro of either a '39 or '40, but they they have the right shape to fit in the opening.
Of the all steel, one piece type they make a 39 style and a 40. The only difference being the 2 outside bars on the 40 go all the way from top to bottom and the 39 style dont. They both fit in the same hole but I would prefer the more correct for my pickup 40 style. I have done a dozen google searches and dont come up with anything. A link would be golden.
If your pickup is nice spend the money for a Drake, nothing looks worse in my opinion than a **** grill on an otherwise nice car/truck. My 2 cents.
Pm fortypickup, he posted the same question a while back, last I heard he had vendettaautofab make one for him. <!--vendettaautofab--> <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Now you're mentioning pickups... Isn't the pickup a different shape, flatter, from a p***enger car? They only look similar, but aren't.
The Speedway grille is junk - made in S. America. Had one, didn't fit, two halves were not the same - bars not aligned evenly, welding was **** - sent it back,. Save up for Bob Drake's even if you have to wait a bit longer or buy an original - worth the wait.
