real quick,....will a fuel pump(w/ vacuum wipers) from a smaller 6 (235) fit a larger 6, 250/292? i'm gonna have to run vacuum wipres 'till $$$$ allows for an electric motor. problem is, with my carb and intake set up, i no longer have vacuum for the wipers. so i was thinking about just doing the old fuel pump w/ vacuum....but need to make sure it will fit. OR/AND if anyone has any part numbers for one that would fit a '75/'76 Chevy 292L6, that would be sweet! thanks. Chris
i THINK the bolt pattern is the same....but just wanted to check and see if anyone knows for sure....
yea, thats what i've gathered on alot of them. my original 235 had the fuel pump w/ vacuum on it. but that engine is long gone now. i just added Langdon's headers and intake and a carter afb. the intake has 2 ports, one is my brake booster, the other is for my modulator on the TH350. the carter only has one vacuum port, which is for the distributor advance. the rest of the carb is all mechanical. i had one person suggest "tee-ing" into my brake booster line since wipers are not some you run ALL the time....but i'm afraid that could pull too much vacuum away from the booster. i'd rather have brakes than wipers. as i said before, i have no objection to the electric wiper motor, 'cept the money right now. so i'm looking for a temp solution. thanks for the input.
Be on the lookout for a 57 Chev electric wiper motor, as thy bolt in, and even the original cable will operate it. thats what I did on my 54, all I needed to do was to take some power off somewhere else to run it - so long ago I can't remember where I took it from.
If it was me I'd tee into the line going to the power brakes. No matter where you hook it up it will be taking some vacuum away from the brake booster. The reason the brake booster is so big is so there will be a vacuum reserve there for times of low vacuum. Thats also why there is a check valve where the hose hooks up tho the booster.
The early 235 and later 250 chevy 6 fuel pumps do not interchange. Even a****st 235 pumps you have to get the right year for the block. Actuator levers came in several versions. Some don't fit at all, others may fit but will eventually break, if they don't match the same year block. The fuel pumps with air ***ist pump on the bottom still need to be connected in series with the intake vacuum.
not quite. thats the "repop"....a bit pricey for me. i've found some original/rebuilt 1957 chevy electric motors on ebay that are more affordable.
I was wondering as it is similar (if not the same as) the one for the '50 GMC 100 that I have to work on next. Do the OE motors have 2 speeds? I know the Newport motor is not cheap, but with 2 speeds, variable intermittent (and self park, but I expect the OE one does that too) I really want that one. If I can afford it or not, that's another matter entirely.
as far as full functions of the '57 motor, i am not sure. i know its a 2 speed....but thats as much as i know. sorry.
I'd tee into the Vac line to the trans modulator. Just cause it would be an easier fitting to do, than a tee in the bosster line. Va***m wise either would be fine. I use rainex on my 54, have for 15 years. looks a lot better with two chrome bullets than wiper blades. And Iv'e been out in RAIN. Frank
The tri five wipers are two speed. Good ones around here are a much as the newport. The tri fives are perfect replacement for the vac. I'd save the bucks and do like the other guys says run the vac to the smallest hose and use rainex. I do that on the 36 and no problems. how often do you get caught in the rain ?
Yea that's what I was thinking. I drove 250 miles to the roundup last year in pouring rain w/ rainex worked for me so....
I figured, I just wasn't sure, thanks. Thanks. As for how often I drive in the rain? So far every trip over 15 miles in my A.
