I put one of these so called EZ wire kits in the car im curently working on (57 pont conv) and im having nothing but trouble. the ignition wires are screwed up with the accsesory wires. when you turn on acc the elec fuel pump kicks on, as it also doess on ign (witch it should) and the sterio will only work on the ing side. not the acc side. the sterio and fuel pump wies both come out of the fuse panel as does everything else. Has anyone else had a problem with these kits? or was mine made on a monday?....maybe its me. i hate electrical, but i followed all the instuctions to the "T". I need to get this car done!! im sick and tired of it and i wana start something else. thanks eh.
Well..I had one of there kits, and sold it to a buddy of mine that likes 'em. Personally, I use American Autowire.
ive put in a few, without any problems... Call 'em up- they've been really helpfull to me in the past.
I used an EZ kit in the Merc a short time ago..Worked just like it should...$160 and well worth it....OLDBEET
I've used the EZ kit's in 3 cars.. The biggest problem i had was understanding the vague directions they have in their kits(at least i thought they were vague).. Once i slowed down and paid attention..no problem.. I even bought one for my '53. I don't know why your having the probs you are, all i can say is start over and go through it step by step again. It could be something very minor that was misunderstood the first time...i've done it. Good luck. Rat..
We just put one in my 48. I works perfect. If you don't find the problem you could run the radio and other stuff just by using some bosch relays. EZ-fix. I used them when I worked as a setrio installer back in day.
i used one too and the only problem i had was the vague *** manual. Maybe you got a bum kit, or it could be ya just ****ed up?
I had no problems with mine. Have a beer relax and just go back through it. It's easy to make a mistake when you are wiring a whole car. Danno
It sounds like you have to reverse the wires on the IGN. switch. Put the IGN.wires on the ACC. side & vise versa. Billy
I just put one in my Truck. It went in fine, but it does not hook up the Alt Dash Warning Light. So I called them to ask for a Diagram. The tech guy was really nice and he told me how to modify the kit to make the light work. I still think the kit should come with a Diagram, what are they afraid off? Somebody copying theyr ****? I could do that from the kit itself. Chevy will sell you a whole car, and you can get a Wiring Diagram for it...
ok guys... im a little calmed down now. Its gota be just me. I think I'll take the advice and have a beer and relax. Im sure once i go through it again and think a little bit more I'll get it. Once i get pics of it as it is right now I'll put em on here.
i like your at***ude! the best thing to do is relax, and walk away for a while. it sounds to me like your ignition wiring is off,,, you should look some stuff up online about wiring ignition switches. maybe just seeing multiple diagrams and pictures would help.
kanada..did you try to lay out the wires first on the floor? i read that it is a good idea to lay out the wiring scheme first then you can run each wire and know where it is going. are you going ot stout's homecoming again!!!! you should.
kanadia, I used an EZ Wire kit in my 46 ford. Converted from generator to alternator, + ground to - ground, the whole nine yards. I have had some serious problems with their kit. Case in point ~ for some unknown reason, the main power feed buss bar on the back of the fuse panel burned through. The main feed from the battery comes into the back of the panel and hooks to a buss bar that then distributes the power to different parts of the vehicle, say for example a radio constant power, clock or horn. Well, the buss bar burned through while I was driving the car, leaving me stranded and costing me towing charges the next day. I felt real good leaving my car by the side of the road overnight, too. I spoke with their tech support, who I must say are knowledgable and very helpfull, to trouble shoot the problem. I screwed around with it until I finally dropped the fuse panel off the fire wall to check it. That's when I found the problem. They did make good on the parts to fix it however. My issues with EZ Wire: why did this happen? will it happen again? I do not particularly want to screw with this every few months. Granted it has not happened since. IMO, it was faulty from the factory. The fusible link should have burned out first or a fuse should have went south. I went the route of finding a kit that better suited my monetary situation and paid the price for going the cheaper route. I wouldn't hesitate to rewire another vehicle but I wouldn't use another one of their kits. As far as I'm concerned I did a top notch wiring job on my car. It took a while but everything is new from front to back. Every switch, socket, bulb, etc. And everything worked for a couple weeks before this problem occured. And yes their instruction manual ****S! (BTW, I am currently working on making my own wiring diagram using autocad and basing it on the 21 circuit EZ Wire kit. Also including a back view of the panel and where all the buss bars are located and where all the jumpers go. It will make trouble shooting easier down the line.) As far as the fuel pump running in the acc position of the ignition, the easiest way to fix it is to put a correctly rated switch in the line. It is actually not a bad idea anyway as a safety precaution. Sorry for the rantification but I have strong opinions on this particular brand of kit. Good luck and if I can help in any way, send me a PM.
Have wired about 20 cars, used ONE ez kit. ****py paperwork, ****py wire, never again. everyone makes a mistake once, they just make up for everyone else. Mike
I used a kit from Rebel Wire. American made, great wire, terrific support and HAMB members get a 10% discount.
I have installed about 15 of the EZ wire kits.. I had a '38 chevy 350, air, big stereo.. when I sold the car, I had put over 50,000 miles on it in under 2 years.. never an electrical problem..
I used one and am happy with it. There were a few loose terminals in the fuse block I had to recrimp. Other than that, no problems.
used one with all black wire was a pain in the **** plus i had never done anything like that before. i did find the instructions only soso but i did get a little(5" x 8-1/2") book called how to wire a streetrod which was very helpful all kinds of basic wiring circuits tips etc. it looks kinda like a comic book but the $8 was worth it .my new e-z- wire harness is color coded for extra help
Have installed 2 of them & the only problem was with the installer. Check your switch & be SURE it isn't shorted internally (mine was). Call Shawn he can talk you thru any problem. Al
I used one and it was OK,I've done a lot of elec. work before and had no problems, but the manuel is a little weak.If you take your time and study it it will all come together.
jesus, i havent seen one of those kits in a while, was wondering where everyone was getting them. the manual was **** tho. do they still make them
