I bought this motor can yall tell me about it from the numbers and if the rough cut hole in top is normal. I took pictures of what I could find and figured the guru's could tell me Thanks, Z
Ur right the stamped numbers on the front are 2f6-x and the raised ones are D2AE-CA are 2f1. If u click on the first picture is should blow up, if you hit the square in the corner of the page and I circled the hole in yellow. If it don't let me know not totally computer literate Thanks Z
Probably won't be able to tell what it came out of, but you've got a starting date ('72) and we know they quit using them in '74...
Bingo! You got a '72 Cobra Jet high performance 4 bolt block, 4" bore/9.206 deck height. It is "out of sight" ...
the 2F1 = June 1, 1972 casting date 2F6-X- = June 6, 1972 Assembly date. X= high performance. D2AE-CA = 351C 1971-74 Cobra Jet.
thought that looked really familar!! I got a 71 351 C Cobra Jet setting in the garage. Damn good engine!! hhhmmm I didn't see the heads in the pics?? You got them too? They should be 2.19 1.71 valves with I believe triple groove retainers...
Very good engine. I have a '71 Boss 351C in my '66 Ford truck and I love it. It doesn't take much to make a real BadAss out of these engines. Make sure to put a good oil pump and good oil pump drive back in it. Mild cam, intake ,carburetor, and headers and you're good to go. Here's a couple pics of mine. yup got the heads too...Man what a truck my 65 f100 is a little ways from looking that good, what headers did you use.
If you want a good street clevo put some 2V's on it with 4V exhaust valves. Most of us over here in OZ don't run 4V's on the street we either use the 2V's or after market heads. The 4V's are To much of a pig down low. My 67 Fairmont has a 387 Clevo in it with heavenly ported and polished 2v"s and it runs 10.80 aspirated.
I don't know where these people get their info on the 2V heads being better than the 4V heads? Mine has the 4V heads and is a beast. It has a ton of bottom end and will turn up to 7500rpm's no problem. This is with a C6 and a 2500 stall. If you have 4V heads I sure wouldn't trade them for 2V's. The headers on my truck are Hedman '71-'72 Mustang. One of the tubes on the pass side is close to the crossmember under the bellhousing, but I just did a little ball peen hammer treatment and fixed it. They fit perfect other than that. If you try to buy a set for the Clevo in the truck...get ready to bend over! It's not nessesary. The truck is alot of fun and is very fast. Most people don't expect to see all that under the hood. "The 4 barrel Cleveland doesn't have any low end", is a magazine and internet myth. I have three 4 barrel headed 351 Clevos, and they all have tons of torque down low. My '73 Torino Sport with a 100,000 mile 4V 351 CJ will roast the tires at will with a set of 3.50's in the locker. The only change to that car was to advance the stock cam 4 degrees, bolt on a Holley 750 VS carb to the iron intake manifold and install a set of Hooker headers.
Whenever you read "Australia" in the details....concerning 2Vs....we're talking bout a whole nuther animal.
Yep, we sure are! Particularly in a street car with an automatic trans, that you can't launch at 5000 rpm like a standard trans. However, with a stick, I would go with the 4V. Bernie Scheuerman
