  1. I'd be willing to bet that with the spindle mount wheels and the severe top chop that it might have been an altered class car. The gas classes frowned on vettes.

Did a search here on the HAMB.Larry Teter's daughter is a member(terrid87)maybe she could help with more info?I think all the locations where the vin would be on this car are long gone unless the original part of the frame under the drivers seat is still there.

wow nicee find...that is sweet...looks pretty rough and will be a good project but will definitily in the end...id go for it maybe 2500 tops but start low

  6. I'm sure the bird cage is wasted on that thing. I'd have a tough time dishing out $500 for that neglected puppy. If your not familiar with 'Vettes ....Bird cages do not grow on trees.....they're not easy to find.

We've all been here guys. Car "rotting" on the side of some house-loads of "sentimental" value etc. He's probably been asked about selling this car many times. Gets a kick out of it. In his mind this is a $10,000-20K car min. Hell, they are selling them for over $60K restored aren't they? I hate to be a pesimistl, but I've seen it too much:D

On later Vettes there is a metal substructure that the fiberglas panels mount to that is known as the "birdcage" - they rust ! But I don't believe pre-63 Vettes have any metal structure , or birdcage, so you're safe there. I think with this car you're buying the history of the car ( whatever it is ) - may be worth a lot to a restorer if its a good history. I'd throw in an offer of $1000 and see what he says - but I think he'll probably think its worth a lot more . Good luck !!

Naaa, you are not safe. The fiberglass becomes porous over time and can be a real bitch to fix. My guess is he wants a fortune, else it would have been gone long ago.

<shrug> Pick a low number (800?) and give it a shot. You never know what he'll go for, and you won't find out unless you try. Worst case it's a starting point for more negotiations. If he gets hurt feelings and gets pissy, the deal wasn't going to happen no matter what your opening bid was.

I wonder if that could be related to the fact that all Corvettes have fiberglass bodies...... hence rust has a hard time getting in.......;)

Offer $25,000, but be prepared to listen to why the owner thinks it's worth a lot more. This IS a Vette ( or used to be one in a former life) and anything with Vette DNA is overpriced to an exponential amount. Those who have dealt with the breed (Vette owners) know exactly what I'm talking about. There IS a reason it has been deteriorating for so long and that reason (if you ever find out what it is) will have no relationship with reality. Unless your in desperate need of entertainment/ frustration do your best to forget you ever saw this car.

  18. So, now you said that Ferank, you need the address where the car is??:p;):D

    $25,000? Must be a typo.

I would think there would be a large number of people who would happily hand over $2,500 for this car with a clear title. Yeah, it would take a lot to rebuild into a runner, but then as a race car, it wouldn't need to be restored like a Vette guy would, just rebuilt into a cool race car (which could still be driven on the street).

Of course, there is the flip side and that is whether your heart is in this car (It would need to be), or whether you are just trying to buy it to resell.

Personally, I think it would make a really bitchin project and I think $2,500 is fair.

  20. the early vettes don't have a "bird cage" that started in 63:D
they do have some steel reinforcements most if not all are reproduced.

Its an early corvette with a title. I'd be amazed if it was $3000 or less. If it is, i'd buy it.

That looks like an absolute minimum of $3000 to me if it has a title, but I'd be willing to bet it's going to be closer to the $8-10K range or possibly even more.

Some of you guys must have been living under a rock for the last 30 years. Early corvettes bring a lot of money....and so do old race cars these days. The body looks pretty damn decent, so what if the top is chopped.

If it was around here, I'd try to find a way to buy it.

If you're into vettes (I'll leave out the prick jokes) you'll understand. Offer $5K and go from there. Not too many people who can turn down 5 grand without blinking. Especially for something they have not touched in 30 years. I'm only charging you 3 of those blue things for my commission fee.

Honestly, if you offer him 500.00 be prepared to have the door slammed in your face. The idea that there is nothing wrong with starting with a ridiculously low offer is flawed because 90% of the time it just pisses the owner off. I would start at 3 or 4k and I'm sure the guy actually wants 10k or more.
