first thing we did was prep the dash , and stering colume then we shot sealer over it all . then we re sanded it , cleanded it with wax and grease remover
these 2 glove box pieces we desided to put aside after the white crystal base because they dont need to be flaked or cleared (dont want the clear build up) take note that we ran out of the white crystal base when we did the jambs on kirks car so i saved enuff of the origonal mix so i could give the top of the dash a matching coat in this case the new base i bought more than likly would have matched but its better to be safe than sorry
next we go with my "top secerate" flake mix i cant tell ya what it is cause id have to kill ya ! i will tell yas it dose have roth flake in it , binder ,and inter coat clear but thats all im tellin yas i like to mix flake untill i like how it looks on my mixing stick most folfs use the mesuring meathod next we laid down some flake
after i get the desired look i want with the flake i usaly like to lock it in with inner coat clear usaly 3 coats then 3 coats of a high solids clear this time since it was mini flake and a dash i chose to skip my normal inter coat clear sesion and went right to my clear
well thats it for now we'll let this sit for a few days we'll sand it all again ,re clear it with 2 , 3 coats, sand it again, lace panel the top of the dash with the same fades as the rest of the car, i think well candy blue the shifter lever rod and well do some thing else to the face of the dash but not sure yet so stay tuned for the net instalmint!
The flake doesn't show up real well in those pics, but I bet it looks swell when you're there! Lotsa DETAIL !!!! But what's that ugly blue and white car in the background???
Wow thats gonna be hard on your eyes in the sun!! Looks good though, start bolting this thing back together already
For some strange reason, I was thinking of this car while making coffee this morning. Thanks for the update! Looking real good. I like the blue shifter arm idea
How come you need the plain white base under the crystal white base? Would the crystal white base not provide enough coverage by itself? Thanks for taking the time to do this tech. I'd like to see you do one on a laced panel too. I know most of that is covered in the other "dangerous" posts, but those are so spread out and have roughly 1/2 million replies to them that it's hard to follow the complete step-by-step. Thanks again!
You guys got balls. If it was me, the fog from spraying would get under that cover and all over the car like it was a magnet. More great work, thanks for sharing, this is a great education seeing this amount of effort in a paint job. I hope to see this car in person some day. will it ever get to the east coast? Frank
SUHWEET!!!!!!!! How did the bottom of that chrome surround go? I'll come get it when it's ready and reassemble the gauge cluster.
the crystal white base is vary transparent it dont cover at all!with out the white under it you would see evry thing
grill should be close to done tomarrow its on the car! also the top is reay to be polished lets keep our fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!
can i have your baby!!! HA HA HA... seriously. if i could work for you for room and board i would!!. my mutha- f'in hero!!! you make me want to paint shit and i'm no painter. just a humble welder/grinder!! you are the DAMN MAN!!!
No shit? I need to get you the rest of the knobs then. Should I come down to drop them off today. I can't stay because I'm babysitting.
