Anyone know where some will be posted? I have a friend with a car there and won't be able to make it.
Can someone here make a "sticky" that we can post our pics to this weekend so we don't have a ton of different posts?
I'd like to see a pic or two of the 56 wagon that Rods and Restos took to Cobo Hall.I've heard its a Great 8 car.
Neil Lea is a craftsman, like his style, he has built a couple 55's that have been off the chain, might not be HAMB style (they usually have billet wheels!) but they are tastefully done, I too cannot wait to see a pic of this 56 wagon Ive been hearing about. xtra
Is it a '56 or a '55? With the egg crate grille it definitely gives look of a '55 more than a '56. Then again there is not a single disguinshing feature left. These Riddler Cars while amazingly engineered and actually beautiful just kind of confuse me. They clearly aren't hot rods and at this point the top cars aren't even what you could call a custom. They are almost completely one offs.
After seeing some other photos of the Ferrari powered car which is the one I was talking about it is a '55. Well at least in idea anyway. It has about as much in common with a '55 as I have with a Centaur.
We acually were looking at pics of older Ferrari's when the nose was reworked and it kinda was also similar to the Ramber to in light and grille placement.... Shit, cats outa the bag nobody is gunna talk to me now, Nooo.... Dont banish me to a street rod forum..... Please
The Rambler takes on a Vega appearance to me. At that was my first thought. I do see some F car influence in it though.
Of the Great 8 I feel this car is the best. Here is why. It's actually something a little different for once. As far as aesthetic goes. These Riddler cars have become extremely boring and predictable. And with the exception of the nose this one is too. Occasionally there are some cool and unique engineering details. I do think the theme of the car is well tied together. The '55 had a very Italian eggcrate grille so the nose doesn't look too misplaced. The nose seems to be extremely inspired by the '61 250GT SWB and it seems make the nose look lighter. Plus having the mid mounted Ferrari engine and all of that stuff get's points for at least being different. The exotic powertrain is bound to get the judges attention. The wheels with the black centers are also different for this type of car. The monochrome red paint and no trim is in no way different or trend setting (yet works with the Ferrari theme) is typical Riddler boring. But from the few photos that I have seen with very few detail shots this car it is at least pushing things in a different direction for these types of cars and has held my attention for more than a couple of minutes. Which is more than I can say for the other Great 8. I still don't know what to classify these things as though. They clearly aren't hot rods, they are not almost not even customs in some cases. So to say that they are traditional is unnecesary. They are completely removed from the world of hot rodding. They are simply show going one offs. Are completely original designs allowed? Or do they have to be based on existing designs? Also, I think the unfinished Yellow Submarine is easily the coolest thing that I've seen so far.
The "Ferrambo" is amazing in its details & the engineering is killer! I love the way the car avoids the standard hot rodding cliches & still sez f**k-off to the Ferrari-nazis. GREAT job!
please tell me that that 56 didn't start out as a nomad... I hope it is just another 4 door conversion.
"please tell me that that 56 didn't start out as a nomad... I hope it is just another 4 door conversion." ...no, not a Nomad, it was a 2-door wagon, an original Forest Service car that was stored in a salt barn! I over-heard the owner explaining some of the mods to some guy while I was looking at the build books of it, he mentioned that all the body mods cost $250,000!
Shaggy said: I'm working for them to be able to afford the good parts and chrome for my Strombergs and axles for my 283 powered 27 t roadster project, kinda like working for the enemy but i still get to help push ideas that are not typical street rod stuff<!-- / message --><!-- sig --> __________________ A good friend fo mine ( 56 F100 on here) is doing something very similar with the black Willys in the top 8. He makes alot of the stainless pieces for the car. The extra income he uses to finish his chopped, shortened and lowered 56 F100.
I'm amazed that you arent amazed by it! You have to at least be able to admire the amount of work that went into it, and the quality.
Could we please at least spell it correctly - It's R-I-D-L-E-R - one 'D'. It has absolutely nothing to do with Batman.
What's the point of having the hood open?? It's got a cover that completely covers the engine.....if it even has an engine.
This is my favorite picture from Detroit. from the men's room wall in the basement. now thats great bathroom art!
all that money and the car does absolutely nothing for me,,,just my opinion of course, but im biased because im into strictly traditional cars,,,,,honestly, if i was there, i'd look at that car for like a minute..
First of all. I'm sorry that I mispelled Ridler. Only one "d" that time. Secondly these cars have nothing to do with hot rodding so that they aren't in a traditional style doesn't bother me. For the most part they are predictabble and almost cliche. This is why I find them boring. Oops. I meant predictable.
its cool that you were amazed that i wasnt amazed at it,,i wish you could be amazed that i was amazed at it,but,i honestly wasnt amazed at it..i was amazed that people were amazed at it though, not because i DONT hate it or anything,....it looks way better than any car i would build in my lil garage,,,and looks well built,,,i can APREICATE it though!,,but not amazed.
