The lack of rust and completeness is amazing. 8k winches are great.. I once loaded a 51 merc 4-dr that had no wheels. Yeah, I had some in the back of hte truck, but somebody had torched off the lug studs..

    Nice find!!! Wagons are cool.
My friend's son bought a '55 Pontiac Star Chief with the plan to convert it over to a Chevy because Chevys were worth more, needless to say that car is NOT a Chevy today but a cool mild kustom Pontiac because Dad wouldn't let that happen.

Today was a good day I learned something.
I thought only the Nomad type two door wagons were Safaris. In any event; that is a cool car, good find. do it right. Good luck. May there be no hidden suprises!

Never have seen one before. The IDIOTS at Harold's wrecking yard crushed a complete 4-door wagon last fall. I got the factory air controls and vents and a few other parts. If you would be interested in the A/C stuff, let me know.

  8. Not to mention that by the time you swapped out the front clip, quarters, entire frame, and dash you may as well have bought a Chevy in the first place.

Good grief, why would anyone turn a Pontiac into a Chevy? That's like trying to turn an apple into a peach. Is it worth the effort?

  11. The Custom Safari two-door wagon was part of the Star Chief line, rather than the Super Chief line, which featured only a four-door station wagon.

Just so you guys can compare his 2 dr Chieftain Safari body with a Star Chief Safari body:
Doors, liftgate, tailgate, roof, tail lights, trim-- All different! Crazy, huh?

Hate is too strong a word ... but I distinctly dislike you now. Living in the rust belt has its advantages, but finding old tin in THAT condition is NOT one of them.. Cripes, aside from the rear bumper, it looks like that chrome will polish up with the tail of my shirt. Good score.

I thought this was an odd detail:

the dip in the top of the rear quarter panel, behind the B pillar, about 8" behind the door handle is visible in these Pontiac Safari pictures,

just as it is there on 55-57 Chevy sedans, but not on Nomads,

  18. Where did you find it specifically? I live in south Fort Worth... I'll kick myself if I missed it somewhere close by..

Great score! Love those 2dr wagons. ;)

For all the Texas haters, here's my score from earlier this year. I found some rust on it last week.. you can almost slip a pencil through it. :( ;)

38Chev.. I found this one in Alvarado. Fields are full of these things. :D

  20. It was on Owens Road just outside Alvarado. It's hard to believe I hotfooted it 350 miles and grabbed it before any of you Metroplex guys.

Of course, I'm not gonna apologize.....

  21. Don't! Great score!

  22. Only a 1/2 hour negotiation? Sounds like somebody might have gotten a pretty good deal on that find as well. Nice wagon, congrats! Oh, and what a great color combo to boot.

25 years ago I lived in Plano and looked at a '57 Star Chief Custom Safari (Nomad-style) in Grand Prairie. It was behind a building in an industrial area, and mostly disassembled but all there. Didn't have the money he wanted for it...something like $1,200.

  24. There was a green and white '56 Star Chief Custom Safari two-door here in Lubbock for several years, owned by Cecil Puryear, a longtime bowtie maniac and now a district judge, but I think he sold it five years or so ago.

We had a 57 chieftan 2 dr wagon in the wrecking yard, it still had the original paint, mint green with a black spear, must have been cool looking new!

Cool Find ! I Had A '56 Safari Years Ago. Yours Would Really Look Neat Pulling A Pontiac Powered Front Engine Digger On A Homebuilt Trailer. Keep Us Posted.

  28. Great Find In my opinion we all need to gather up as many of these older cars as we can.We need to save as many as we can from those demented narrow minded people with no imagination that just want to crush and sell these classics to the (darn #x#x#x# ):eek:chinese OldWolf
