Not sure, thats the buster litton 'panoramic' car yeh? looks like it was made from a vicky, so the windscreen may seem shorter in relation to the roof due to the lip that ran across the front of the roof.. If i ever chopped my shoe, thats the roof line i would aspire to.
Nah... Joe Bailon built custom from a 1950 Ford Convertible with a lengthened 1951 Victoria top added. Its listed as a 4.5 inch chopped windshield. Same car different version... (photo from the TwoChops photo collection)
Don't want to steal the thread by any means, but I wondering where that blue version pic was taken, not Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA by any chance? Sort of looks like it might be. Cool pic and cool car regardless.
Dont know.. I could not find the info.. but here are a few more photos of that shoot. Perhaps you can identify the location using those.
July 53 Hop Up lists it as 4 1/2" chopped windshield....which poses the question is it 4 1/2 vertically at the front, or 4 1/2 out of the windshield? That'd be about 3 or 3 1/4" vertically.
The Bailon car has the side windows chopped more than the windshield, and the drip rail over the windshield deleted. He avoided the awkwardness of the stock "forehead" by lining up the top of the windshield with the side windows. Note that the stock arrangement is quite different. Looks to me like the side windows might have been cut 4.5", but the windshield somewhat less.
Hmm, I am still guessing that is Lake Merritt in Oakland back in the 50's before they built more building around it obviously and the hills in the back ground. Some of the building do look vaguely familiar, but would need to go look at them again to be sure. The first shot looked like looking east towards the east bay hills. The b/W shot looks like looking west towards downtown Oakland. If someone knew if that was a San Francisco Bay Area car, then that would probably tell it for sure.
I think they put the car in front of the background in the photo dept. at Hop-Up. It says what they did in that same issue when you read about the cover. Then again , I may be wrong. The book aint in front of me.
Either way, really nice car! The whole character and the fantastic looking black paint with the chrome tim is just really cl***y - nice and subtle, but very well executed. If it were mine, I might go just slightly more subtle with the wheels and probably just let them be black (or silver) for a more stealth look. But, that's just me. That's a real keeper regardless. Easily right up there with the best shoeboxes I have ever seen for sure - IMHO anyway. The interior is hard to see, but seems like it is probably pretty darn nice as well.
My apologies for hijacking this thread, but flattery gets me every time. The car is green/orange, not black/red. Here's the interior (Dave Lindsay interior photos).
I think the back of the rear 1/4 window is ugly. That's probably why they had the girl stand in front of it for the photoshoot. Other than that it's killer.
Shoot, ok, still looks good. That's a gorgeous purple interior. I am going to start cutting back a little on either the heroin, meth or crack next week.
