Hi all. I love weird flathead intakes. Im interested in looking for a flathead v8 intake that takes winfield carbs. and i dont want to use adapters to go from 2 bbls to winfields either But, i only know of a couple that do it. What do you guys have in your collection that takes winfields? or maybe even other multiple single throats? i seem to recall a twin detroit lubricator intake i seen a few years ago. That might work for me as well. Hopefully everyone will have pics of their set ups! even if its just hanging on the wall. thanks alot! Beecher
Well ... here is an ***ortment of intake manifolds to look at. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248980
yeah, ive been drooling over that. but i only seen the ord and the alexander winfield types in there. and i went threw a link somewhere else on here, to a fotki photo album. that was just amazing. but i was hoping to find something else weird or wonderful. thanks Beecher
so no one on here has any multiple detroit lubricator or multiple winfield flathead intakes? I know they must exist, but its hard to actively look for them if i dont even know who made them!!! I stumbled on a eddie edmunds twin lubricator manifold and a guys house. he wont sell, but was wondering what it was worth, or what year it was, i think im more interested then him. has to be a prewar unit, really blockly looking, but takes to centerally mounted detroit lubricators. anyone know anything about one like it? Ive seen the same basic manifold but for 2 strombergs, but never a twin lubricator manifold. thanks for any info, even if its just something you remember seeing years ago Beecher
Beecher: It's probally one like I have , but it's missing the risers. The risers bolt to a single barrel carb flange. The risers used a 3 bolt flange & were water heated like one on the Edmunds in the recient post of that collection.Take a look & see.
this one had risers on it, but they looked like they were cast at a differnt time. not the same look to the alluminum. It is supposed to have the risers like that? we figured it was just someone homebrewing something to mount twin 94s on it, which what was on it at the time. The manifold looked like the one in that collection a little while ago, but i thought that one took 2bbl carbs right on the manifold. I will go check now. thanks Beecher
Saw one on eBay a few weeks ago, but don't remember anything about it. Had two square-flange, Winfield-type mounting inlets side-by-side (instead of front-to-back) - about over the heat riser p***ages. Odd looking. Don't remember anything about it except it looked ugly. I don't think it was that russell1932 character selling it either...maybe aluminumguy or whatever his name is that sells a lot of old stuff?
russell sold both the alexander and the thomas intakes in the last few weeks that took winfields side by side. I used to love the alexander, but i think i like the thomas more now, and despite him saying the thomas had winfield to stromberg adapters, that manifold wouldnt have taken winfields. You are sort of right, the more pics i look at of the alexander intake, the uglier it gets. he sold one of each of those, plus some repops of the alexander 5 years ago or so on ebay as well. What i wouldnt have give just to see that collection. Im a somewhat obsessed with winfield carbs, despite not owning any. I want to eventually build a flatty with 2 or 3 on it. For now i have to settle with my cyclone triple. Ive seen reference to people in the 40s with winfields on the v8, but never really any pics of it. Sooner or later i will stumble on to something. I tried looking at the post from a few weeks back with the eddie edmunds intake, but it wont load for me, my internet ****s, Im a bit like Bruce in that my internet connection is a volt meter on the phone lines. thanks guys. I would have thought there were more of these things out there, just undesirable for anyone but collectors. Maybe i will have to cast my own up. Beecher
I had a belmont intake with two of them side by side for a 60hp I sold it to a guy that was restoring an old race car that had one on it when it was raced in the day, I figured it belonged there more than it did in my garage collecting dust.
wow, that belmont is killer, ive never heard of it. I didnt know the davies ran winfields, thanks Beecher
