Gotta brag on my buddy here, because he hates to toot his own horn. Brenden at Stubby's Airbrush and Custom Paint in Burleson, Texas, has been working on his '50 Ford off an on for about 2 years. It went into the final mockup stage last weekend before getting it's maroon suede-coat. Very few cars end up with that perfect chop, perfect rake and details that make your head spin. I think this one will be one of those cars. He is scrambling to get this thing on the road for the Roundup and the some of the Coollows are headed over this weekend to help out. It may have to ride to the Roundup in primer or with incomplete paint work, but we're hoping to get it there one way or another!
I'll keep this thread alive with updated pics as it gets finished out. Bookmark and follow along for new developments...
Absolutely love the look. I am in the process of chopping my '50. Definitely, post some more pick on the build and specs like "how much is it chopped, suspension, etc."
i like the car but the tail lights are something to look at. but the crazy thing about it is (as i thumb through my little books) it would have been something they would have done in in the late 50's to early 60's show car scene. kinda has a Barris feel to it.
very cool. please post more as the progress continues. Got any other details about the build like drivetrain, suspension etc...?

A very, very, built SBF and I believe a tricked up Tremec tranny. I'll get the whole scoop on the suspension and other assorted details and post tomorrow.
"Perfect" is a word, hard to live up to! The chop looks great, the stance looks great. The tailights suck! Don't know which set I would keep, probably the bottom ones, and axe the rest, the wheels look like a Streetrod... Sure you want to stick with the "perfect",description? I love Shoeboxes and my son's is pretty nice too. But "perfect" isn't a word I use very often. Now...don't get all sensitive on me. It's only MY opinion... Just went back and took another look. The Hagen french kit on the front..."swing,and a miss...". (another worthless opinion...)
Hell, I'm not offended. It's not even my car! My opinion of "perfect" in this case was slanted more toward the craftsmanship and execution versus design choices. I don't expect everyone to love the taillights, french kit, whatever. You could poll 1,000 people on what the "perfect" hot rod is and probably get 1,000 different answers. I don't really want this to turn into a "this is cool" and "that is not cool" pick apart session on the car. I was simply pointing out that this is an extremely well done car and the builder likes the design choices because he designed it, build it with his own hands and will be the one driving it every day. It is being built with passion and skill and, more importantly, he didn't poll the masses to see what they wanted him to do. That's one thing I love about going to the car shows. I'll see a car that is amazing, point out the things I like about it and the things I would do differently if it were mine....but still agree that it's badass!
Front end looks great. Chopped nice.Tailights need a little help.2 headlights,6 tailights???.....Take another look at the rear and walk around the front of the car and look again. What is it saying???Only the eye of the designer knows.Very close though, good work. Time-Bomb John
The quality of the work looks fantastic. Hard to get passed the taillights though. I would like to see it when it's painted.
Car looks great, nice flow, good job on the chop and the top tailights. Now about the other four... Definitely a good conversation starter.
Updated pic... Looks like he's good to go for the Roundup. Exhaust went in on Friday and the glass guy worked on Saturday and Sunday to get that completed. We met yesterday for dinner and it looks sweet going down the road. Look for it at the Roundup!
Chop is good I think? No pics to even see the whole thing. Is the windshield raked back? Or is it just the pic? And yeah, totally gotta agree with Bob...lotta bad ideas goin on here. Just cuz ya buy the parts from a Custom catalog doesnt mean ya need all of em on the same car! Would love to see more stand-back, whole car shots tho.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but those sure look like hagens to me...which make any car look like ass...all that nice bodywork ruined by those crappy headlights..i'll jump on the bandwagon with unionville haunt and bob..there's a *lot* of bad ideas going on here... PS why the fuel filler door?! There is no excuse for this car...be a good friend and buy your pal an alliance member ship and show him this thread...at least it can still be saved before paint show him this: Frenched '53-'54 Mercury headlight bezels on a '49-'51 Ford: http://kingkustomstemecula.com/wst_page13.html frenched 1950 buick taillights
