I'm putting on a car show Saturday May 17th to raise some money for my school's car club. Our club, the Firebirds, has been around since the 50's. Every semester we host some events for our members including a trip to Milan Dragway, autocrossing at Birch Run, as well as some Dyno days when we can get the facility lined up. This year we are getting our funds significantly reduced, so to keep us going we're putting on this show to raise some money. The show will be at Kettering University / GMI in Flint, Michigan. Registration is $15 with all of the proceeds going towards the club. Registration starts at 8am and awards will be at 2:30. We'll have some food vendors there as well. The show is open to anything, so there might be some new cars there. I'll have my '34 there, and hope to dominate the show with some traditional cars. I'm also planning on going down to Woodward afterwords and cruising the boulevard that evening. I think it'd be cool if we could get some people together to all cruise Woodward. Let me know what you guys think! Here's the flyer and a couple of pics from the archives.
I dunno, that Flint, Michigan place has been in the news as a bad place to be. You start spreading the news, some of us- er - I mean- those thugs from the area might just show up. Sounds like fun, and a great cause... make sure to bring this back to the top, when the date gets closer. -Joe
Jdubbya, This sounds like just the type of event that OUR car club would want to attend. Think we could take BEST CLUB DISPLAY away from those upstart Nightmares? Frank
Party @ GMI? There's something new... Well at least we can hit the frat houses to drink their beer when we run out! We gotta help these guys & get the word out all of the Mich HAMBers. Larry
Fab32 and Jdubbya have their own car club? What the Lounge Chair Cats? Is the motto 'Wake us up if anything is happening we need to know about, otherwise, leave us to sleep?' Of course, Fuel Pump is the Sarge at Arms. I hear that Lucky's Gal was applying to be treasurer at Autorama.
People, in Michigan, are into cars? Imagine that. That's the weekend before my birthday. I'll make it my birthday wish that I have to go, then the Mrs. CAN'T say no! Jay
Thats the same day as the 12th annual burn survivor car show and auction at Fifth Third Ball Park in Comstock Park, MI. Going to be tough to compete with that, its a pretty good sized show. Good luck though!
Dan, Very insightful. You just touched on one of mid-Michigan's dirty little secrets. When you see us all together all appears to be fine. But underneath that thin vainer lies deeply rooted envy, jealously and deceit. At the center of all this are two guys who deep inside want to be accepted by "the group" but just can't make the grade. I know its hard to believe but if you look closely you can see it.
I thought is was the "bad dreams club" I'll try to make it up there, got a club member that goes to Kettering, drives a beat up ol K5. Lord knows those boys need money for cars cause there aint no chicks!!!!
Yeah, Aaron is right about the no chicks unfortunately. At least the good weather will bring out the best of the ones we have.
We had considered calling ourselves "The Super Bad *** M*%#er F@&!ers", but I dont think we could get all that lettering on our muscle shirts. We settled for "Bad Dreamz", and we are 3 strong, we just have to stop and get Mike. Sorry for the hijacking, but if you remind us, we will likely be there.
If the Badd Dreemzzz are there, the NIGHTMARES might do a drive by... better practice that "duck and cover" routine.
Hmm, I'm suppose to be a Dad the 15th or 16th of May... not sure how this will fly, but I'll put it on the calendar!
Ok guys, it's one month away. The awards are now sponsored, and everything else is ready to go. The show will be on the big field in front of campus. You can drive on it by going in the driveway off of Third Ave. There's a slight curb there, but I'll have some nicely made wooden ramps to accomodate any low vehicles. If you want to mapquest it, the address is 1700 W Third Ave Flint, MI 48504. Here's some quick directions though: Coming I-69 - take exit 135 Hamerburg Rd and head north. Go through the first light (a grade school is on the right). At the next light, which is Court, take a right. You'll have to make an immediate left at the next light. Once through, take another left onto Chevrolet Ave. You'll drive next to the school on your left. nThe next intersection is Third Ave, take a left and you can turn left into the driveway to get onto the field. We'll have some people out helping direct people, and I'll have my truck there plus stuff set up so it'll be easy to find. Here's a little map:
Has PaintFumes made a decision on which day he's going to be a dad? I didn't know you could chose a day like that. I had to do a ton of begging and she still made me wait 9 months! Sorry, I won't make the show. I'm thrashing with my son (that dad thing again!) on this truck to make noise for Billetproof. Hope the turn out is great. Weather is supposed to be good.
Nice to see Mich Hambers, I'd love to be there, but it'd be tough w/o brakes. Trying to get the girl done for Billetproof.
