I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any type of high heat clear coat for headers. I would like it to be like a glossy clear coat that could withstand up to like 1500degrees. Is there any thing like this or is there any type of powder coat like this??? Also where can you by any type of high heat powder coat?? Im asking because I want to make my lake headers gloss black or glossy silver but dont know where to get the clear coat or powder coat. Would it work if I cleaned the **** out of the headers and left them bare metal with just clear coat over them?? I cant afford them to be chromed so I gotta come up with somethin -Jon

I know they make a high heat clear which is used for clearing engine blocks. Some companys sell it in rattle cans.

Had a shop here in Metro Detroit ceramic coat my headers and exhaust system. They look almost chrome and have some gloss to them. I am sure any local powder coater in your area could fit the bill. Good luck.

VHT offers their Flameproof Coating spray can in a clear (part # SP115). They advertise it to withstand temps up to 2000 F.

Flower has lakes headers on her flathead, refuses to paint or coat them. She likes the way they look raw and she just keeps them clean, wipes them down with a scotch-brite pad & Marvel Oil from time to time. They have always looked good without looking trashy.

There is a nice high gloss silver powdercoat for hi-temps, as well as a gloss black. Not Jet hot coatings, but a hi temp powdercoat. Check Eastwood for availability and pics. We've used both successfully. You don't NEED clear to have a gloss finish!

Hi-temp powdercoating is only good to about 1200-1300 degrees. Granted, it may last a while, but continuous heat on those headers (as you drive) at the ports will eventually burn it off...ceramic coating is best...or porcelain if you can afford that...

I've had real good luck with JET HOT ceramic. Not so much with the high temp paint.

spray metalizing is an alternative to expensive jet hot and ceramics. basically it is an aluminum wire fed in front of a plasma or oxy-fuel head which sprays molten aluminum onto the part. usually an industrial process. works great on headers.
