I'm a ******** model maker, and I've seen a few guys on here mention building models way back when...I'd love to see some pics. I've got a forum all about it, which I enjoy just as much as this place, and there's something kinda cool to me about doing the hot rod thing in a smaller scale. Rare old parts, in small plastic or big metal, are still rare old parts for me. Geeky? probably... Heres a few pics I thought you all might appreciate, by various people who visit my site: Any more plastic geeks out there, besides me? Come on, 'fess up...it's ok to be different...
WOW. You are good. There is the occasional "sunday model" post on here. Some very talented builders here in small scale. I dabbled in it for years and gave up and sent two big boxes of spare parts and kits to one of our builders in Texas.
I should probably point out for clarity that none of those is mine, though i do love Deuces. Here's a work in progress: Nailhead, whitewalls and a banjo rear end. I got a lot 'in progress', and not a whole lot on the shelf...
sounds like you are a true hot rodder then as mentioned, check out the Sunday model posts. I am not one of them, but there are some guys doing some great things on here for sure. Here is a link to this past Sunday's post: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=241835
I revisited the hobby of my youth for about 10 years, then got back to business. Had a ton 'o fun with it. I posted a few of my '60s and '70s style drag models here in the past. Here are a few later efforts that are definitely "O.T."!
That Edsel rules. I wish I could put Bare metal foil down properly... instead of getting so frustrated I take the whole car out with a hammer
I mess around a bit with Model Cars when I get the chance, which is seldom! I've got a '62 Vette, Model A Roadster, '48 Lincoln, and a couple other 1/25 projects that have been sitting on my desk for a few months now with not much done to them.
I'm a traditional hot rod model building freak in my spare time haha. I've got way too many in progress though and not finished. Here's a few of my favorites. The yellow '31 was made completely scratch built, starting with a destroyed stock coupe and using peices from 35 other kits. Power is by a 3x2 389ci Pontiac. The '32 and '27 were made from splitting up one old parted out deuce and bashing many parts. The '32 runs a 4x2 Olds 324ci and the 'T is a 6x2 Buick Nailhead... -Dean
been building models for 47 yrs now. it's the only way I can own one of every car I want to have in full scale
Does this help? http://www.automodelling.com/news.php?id=5&s_id=14 If not, try using less hammer Great looking builds guys, love 'em all. HotRod28AR - those look AMAZING! great photography too!
I'm a model collector more than a builder anymore. It seems I try to get the models too perfect these days. When I was younger it was more fun, I was not as critical of my work as I am now, I have quite a huge collection of kits from 1958 to the present, I still buy resin, paints, and aftermarket goodies, but it all seems to sit there and never get anywhere.
I build..... I am a paraplegic, and up here in the great white north my options for **** to do in the winter are pretty limited.... I used to build alot about 10-15 years ago, built about 10 4 years ago, and just getting back into it. I play with little cars in the winter and the big ones in the summer. Too damn cold in my little garage.... No pics of anything worth looking at, I have a 26 T sedan delivery in progress, a 69-70 "Gas Rhonda" Funny car, a 67 GTX, a 32' 5 window Coupe, a 30' Model A pickup/RPU, etc........ James
im def not a ******** model builder, just starting to get in this hobby, heres my first car and second cars in progress what you guys think, i shaved and nosed and lowered the 59, and nosed, decked, shaved and smoothed the 58,
Nice work FattyMcguire!! I like all the cars you have pics of.... First builds? How did you spray the paint? Can? Airbrush? Fullsize paintgun? Looks great!!! James
I have been known to slap together the odd model or two. Dean, not trying to be picky but 'scratch built' refers to something built without using ANY kit parts. I scratch build large scale models for museums, mainly aircraft but for myself I play around with 24-5th kits. I do have a scratch build 1/16th Cobra Daytona Coupe project though. Doc.
Doc-Would like to see some pics of that Daytona Coupe, that sounds really cool! I know about scratch building and that coupe does have some in it (wood floors, tube crossmembers) I just meant that with that one I didn't really start with a base kit, just a smashed up old body. Frame is a shortened, pinched and Z'd Duesenberg with some 'A parts, '57 Chev rear, '32 drop tube axle, Poncho 389 with 421 carbs/intake, hand made headers, gauges, '57 Ford steering, Moon tank, fab'd up battery mount, '59 Ford front tires etc... -Dean
Dude! If these are your first models built, I can only imagine after a couple years of doing them. They Rock!!!! I have about three in progress but haven't had any time in the last couple years to get back to them. I keep saying one of these days.....
the 59 in lime ice with a clear coat and the 58 chevy is rustoleum gold spray paint with alot of clear and there out of a spray can...
one more since you guys like my stuff so far, i wanted to test the waters on this 53 ford model, i nosed, decked, shaved, rounded hood corners, chopped and rear roll pan kinda rough so far but wut think
Yeah, great job man, love 'em both! If anyone's interested, we're running a 1:25th version of the AMBR on my site here: http://www.automodelling.com/forum.php?id=2&fid=55
