Do you ever talk to your car??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by time-bomb john, Mar 13, 2008.

  1. If so what have said to her?. When I left my shoebox at Cobo with a friend of mine Bill Jagenow from Brothers Custom Auto, I tapped her on the fender before leaving her there and said "Now you be a bad girl for these nice people".
I know it sounds weird but I`m sure at one time or another you must have said something to your car you`d like to share...

Talking to your car is probably in the same category as talking to yourself and I always say; it's ok to talk to yourself as long as you don't argue with the answers.

My son has learned the only way you CAN work on a car is to talk to it while your working! At first he thought I was always talking to him and he would give me the "what did you say"?, "what tool do you need"? Now, he just waits until I say "Kyle, I need the...." Gotta talk to it whilst working!

Hey, that's what I called mine just yesterday when upgrading the 1157 tail lamps to 2357s. First the left side "high beam" quit, then later the right side died. I apologized to her profusely when I fixed everything by replacing the signal flasher.[IMG]

I usually threaten mine with taking it to the scap metal yard, and the threat is usually preceded and followed with a creative string of "colorful" words.

The main thing to remember is that a car is an inanimate object, therefore eventually it WILL respond to reason.

For some reason I only talk to my 62 Chevy II, never the 32 three window. I usually only talk to it after I've ran the crap out of it and I'm reall proud of the way it performed. I think old tin has a soul that is just waiting to be loved by one of us.

When I'm working on it I always say 'this is going to hurt me more than it does you'.

  22. I remember getting lost in Michigan one summer while following another guy in his car.I was in my 56 Merc and when I lost him, I drove 65 miles out of my way.I stopped at a gas station for directions, got back in her, patted her on the dash and said 'No worries baby it`s just me and you now,so lets get home in one piece".She actually listened to me and 6 hrs later we were home safe and sound......Good car sweetie....I have a few break down stories as well with my other Merc built a few years earlier that probably would offend some people in Ohio...KKOA show 1996.....Oh the language we come up with sometimes.... Time-Bomb John Some of your replies had on the floor thanks, too funny....

I do all the time. Matter of fact I just did this morning when I got one out to drive to work that hasn't seen the light of day all winter. I also told the others in the barn it would be their turn soon.
I think everyone does. Just most don't until something breaks...and then it is not nice.
Come to think of it, there were a lot of people 'talking' to Big Olds last weekend at the Autorama. :D

Almost every time I see her...I rub her roofline and fenders and tell her "when I get you on the road or track it'll be you and me, against the world" and usually a few other sweet words when she's not cooperating with me...I REALLY had to talk her into helping me put the 400 Poncho in her without a hitch...I'm gonna go talk to her now...

Years ago it was always ..."come on baby, come on baby, just start one more time and I promise I'll tune you up".:D usually followed by a "thank you, thank you, thank you."

Lately it's been..."hello beautiful you are looking as good as ever!"

I don't care what you guys think, when I flick on the light on in the garage, I get a big grin. I really like what I see.

I have to talk this way when I'm not working on them because you would not believe the ungodly thinks that I call them when things aren't going well.:D Say what you will but cussing out a car when the wrench slips and smashes your finger is still talking to the car.

I had gotten into the habit of patting the car and complimenting it every time we got home. I would say stuff like "Good job" or Nice run, thanks", things like that.

Well, this one time I didn't. I just drove it into the garage, shut it off, and went inside, without so much as a backward glance.

For the next two weeks that thing ran like crap. I was chasing different little gremlins every time we took it out. Nothing that would keep us home, but stuff just bad enough to ruin the fun of the ride.

You can bet I don't forget to talk to it or compliment it anymore!
