Hey does anyone have one of these new intakes? Does it perform like the old ones? and is it possible to run just off the center.......yeah yeah I know why get three if your gonna run off one but hey with gas prices I just wanna have a cool lookin mill. Any help would be greatly appriciated! -Eric
Seeing as how you didn't post any pictures; kind of hard to answer your question. BUT ... if your just looking for "LOOKS", (3 carb) chop the carb bases off a couple of other old manifolds and mount (weld) them in place on either end of your existing manifold, bolt on a pair of junk carbs on each end and, ... "Bob's yer uncle!!"
Oh man your on to me, I quess I will have to throw away my fake Olds valve covers also......if only to be as cool as you*sigh* Hey wait YOUR the one from San Fran......hmmmmmm
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/manifolds/ford/flathead.shtml Its just a remake of there older one, and thats not a bad idea, Thanks!
Cyclone Kevin makes a three carb intake that's as good as anything out there, not to mention his 24 stud heads.
and YOU'RE from Florida... I have a customer who put one his flatty. I just called him and he said it works great... but he has never run the original. (I would guess the Edelbrock didnt improve it much or at all. He is running all three carbs, so he couldnt help on the single carb deal. Best of luck!
It's your car and engine do what you want..I would recommend the super two intake and run two 97s..You way will work also. OH..I have an excellent 3x2 I will sell you..OH..Also have a super two..OH..a 4x2 staggered..OH.. a single two converted to a 2x2 with and adaptor.( side by or one in front of the other) and last I have a 3x2 adaptor for a four barrel intake..If your interested.. Duane.
My 1962 Vic Hubbard speed & Marine catalog (#1149) lists the Edelbrock SU 349 (49 thru 53) and the SU 359 (thru 48) 3 carb intakes. In the description is a notation that they are designed to be run as a triple or dual, With a flange cover plate available to block the middle carb. I have several of these (originals) but prefer to run dual intakes. Preferably "regular" duals that allow the generator to remain in the stock location. I'm currently running a Fenton "super" style dual with 94's. I cruise with no problems at about 65MPH and get 13 to 14 MPG. in my '36 I'm in the middle of building a regular dual high rise style intake using a stock cast intake as the basis. It's not all that easy, I've discovered..... A lot of work is needed to cut away and fill the heat risers, then fill the the original carb opening, cutting new carb bases, etc. and making everything fit between the generator and fuel pump. I'm just about ready to start brazing everything together. Not sure why I'm doing this, except I think it'll be pretty cool to have a homemade intake similar to something that would've been homemade back in the days before it became common to be able to buy one ready made. Also, It's what I want to do.... Don't be afraid to experiment. Read as much as you can about carbs & how they flow, etc, etc. Then build it anyway you want.
