For the third year the Day Of The Drags was a great success.

Some 60 cars and 10 extra drivers took to the track to compete in an event that is quickly becoming legendary, and looks to grow substantially next year!

Ostensibly a day for selected pre-71 vehicles (with a few exceptions for regular supporters etc) with a preference for hot rods, cl***ics and early muscle cars. The format welcomes entrants to run the morning session as they wish. Some people were literally doing laps, finishing a run and returning to the staging area immediately for another. During this period the racer bringing home the best reaction time scored themselves a Tony Martin trophy, Rick Diamond was the closest this year.

After a lunch time break an elimination series was run. The winner, Steve Leonard, taking home a $500 contribution to their insurance from Shannons. The runner up, Wayne Quinnell, was given a bucket of goodies and a sum of money raised by compe***ors and others throwing a couple of dollars into the bucket before the beginning of racing.

One highlight of the event was the inclusion of the HAMBsters, the nostalgic HA/GR cars that are built in the spirit of "The Bug", the first rail to run on the quarter mile. Further to this, several of the wives hopped into the drivers seats for their debut in this rapidly growing new ANDRA cl*** that was just an idea only 2 years ago.

Many thanks to WSID & particularly John Henman, to Joseph Rodriquez (QQMOON) for his huge efforts (and being too busy to race himself), to Andrew Parish (Drewfus) for the event t-shirt, Shannons for their continuing support, Tony Martin of Road Runner Models for the trophy, to Idle Wild for the catering and to all the compe***ors and spectators.
