Now I know some of us don't like the dubbers, and some do, but put all wheezy aircooled import predjudices aside and take a gander at this photoshop of a legend I found on the Volksrods.com site.....not a bad idea huh?
    Looks pretty cool to me.

Nice to see some Volkswagen love going on! Personally i prefer mine in a cleaner 'cal-look' kind of style, or maybe the later stuff in a phat 'german look' rather than kustom-ified

doesn't mean i can't appreciate the workmanship/ideas going on though [IMG]

Pics of my cal/german/strip/custom/gasser look bug on this here forum, maybe get round to posting pics of my ladys 1970 type3 fastback at somepoint (and it's trophies [IMG] [IMG])

I'm a transporter man myself. Nothing like driving an underpowered breadloaf through traffic. Of course, there is the thrill of knowing that your feet will stop objects from comming in through the front of the cab.

Volkswagen made a two seater car called a Hebmuller in the 40's. They had prototypes for a hardtop that were destroyed in a huge fire...so the design isn't really trying to make a vw into something that it's not, so much as hot rodding it's own roots.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, Hebmueller was it's own company that rebodied VW as 2 seat cabriolets, just like Karmann did with 4 seat carbriolets and a Ghia design sport car.

The Kubel was with BRM wheels and was way too far gone to restore... just like when we take those rusted hulks that the retorers won't touch and rod 'em.

A guy I knew in my VW club (early 80s) had a Karmann Cabriolet modified to look like a heb. Kinda different but it was also kind of a hack job... looked good from about 50 ft away.

I don't know if I ever met a real gearhead who didn't have a soft spot for VW's. Kind of a weird combination, Vw's, Harleys, muscle cars, rods and even tractors! Admit it! There's not a damned one of you who hasn't tinkered with farm equipment or a scooter! Come clean. Here's a joke for you. How are mopeds and fat girls the same?..... They're both fun to ride but you don't want your friends to see you!

The Kuebel is owned by a good friend of mine in Florida. No one says too much negative about it especially when it is running mid 11 second quarter mile times. He also owns a 46 beetle that he has completely stripped to bare metal, scotch brited and cleared, to show how perfect it was. Then he cut off the rear apron, dropped it on a mid 60's pan with a huge turbo motor in it. I couldnt imagine cutting up a Heb, Afew years back a guy bought one that was cut into several pieces for around 20,000. Acomplete one that is a basket case can fetch up to 30,000. and a restored one wil bring 40 to 50 grand.

Didn't know there were hardtop prototypes of the Hebs. Now that would be sick. Find a Hebmuller (rrright) and rod it the same way. People think the Vokswagen enthusiasts go nuts when you cut up an oval or split - you'd be dodging bullets and pitchforks if you showed up at a VW get together in a rodded Heb. Didn't the guy with the lowered Kubel with Porche wheels get threatened or yelled at a few times?

I've seen pictures of someone who made their own Hebmuller using a reworked hood turned around for the back. Not some hacked crappy wannabe, but a nice authentic loking Hebmuller. Build that and rod it. Or just make it look close enough to resemble a chopped up real one.

[/ QUOTE ] Here's one with fenders though. Go here http://www.oldbug.com/heb.htm to see the buildup. I've seen this car in person, it's nice. Dean

There's a VW van club here in the UK, that you have to own a splitscreen (pre '67) van and be able to run the 1/4 mile in less than 14 secs, to be a member of [IMG] For added sickness, the majority of the members run super rare 21 or 23 window sambas!

Have also witnessed a guy in a bay window camper lift the front wheels off the start line [IMG] [IMG]

    VW Woodie plans?

" A Bug from the early to mid-sixties is preferable, but anything but Super Beetles will work in a pinch."

This kit is from a build-your-own yacht company. Looks like these folks obtain their own grilles and do their own hood butchering from the pictures:

The one with the Christmas tree looks like an old Ford (the woodie pickup with the stock VW front end is interesting, too):

I saw these today and thought I'd pass it on.

Also, does anyone on here happen to be a VW parts dealer? I'm looking to build my wife's Super Beetle as early as this summer, and I'd rather buy from a HAMBer, off topic or not.

I posted this on it's own, but it was deleted as "off topic". It looks like it belongs in this thread.

    No.

A Faux '40 Ford Woody VW kit doesnt belong on the HAMB at all.

Thats what I ment with Off Topic.
