I got my SCTA/BNI Rule Book in the mail yesterday. Someone tell that 200 mph demon that I'm coming for him! Let the quest for speed begin!!! Sorry I'm excited.
A inline 6 powered lakester. All home built. As traditional as traditional can be. I have not figured out what cl*** yet but I guess that is a ways off.
200mph????????????? in a 6 cylinder lakester. I guess you got a dually to haul them big nuts around Rusty
I'm also working on my own fuel injection. Either that or a Wayne head and 5 carbs... Or a homemade manifold with a supercharger or possibly a turbo. But that will require a different set up. I'm still trying to figure it all out. I don't have any money so it will be on a diet and I'll have to beg steal and borrow to do the damn thing
sure its possible. Donny Ferguson III has paved the way. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=201381
that sounds awesome! if you're considering doing a turbo (kind of a major decision as far as what cl*** you're looking for), do yourself a gigantic favor and get the book Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. you'll be able to figure out exactly what you're looking for as far as turbo size, exhaust size, what type of intercooler yada yada yada. you can do all of it yourself and will be able to look for a used turbo once you figure out what size.
Whatever the turbo buicks run should be sufficient to build on, similar displacement, and they probably have better head designs. Personally, I would use a slant 6 to get really serious. they are pretty tough.
don fergerson III went 301 in a jimmy powered streamliner running on fuel this past august when i was there.he's a cool dude,he let me use his fire suit to get my runs in. -danny
Ernie Periea went 201 in the old Markely Bros tank with a stock head unblown 302 on nitro 25 years ago. So 200 with a six in a lakester is very doable and a good idea. My turbo GMC 270 in my 32 ford 5 window went 158 on gas in '79. Later went 202 in Bob Daltons liner. GMC motors are fast. Joe Fontana went 201 with a fuel burning GMC in a 53 stude in 84.
Sounds like you are already going 200MPH > Slow down and carefully study the rule book and decide exactly what cl*** you think would work for you. The safety requirements for your car will put a big dent in your wallet. But, likely will save your life. Do your research on line with landracing.com, and others. Possibly you can find someone with an unfinished project, or others that want to do the same thing that could team up with you. Best of Luck.
I tend to jump out of the starting gate pretty quick on all my projects... They all slow down pretty quick once I get elbow deep into them. This project will take a few years and I'm really going to try to do this the right way. Right now I'm just trying to get a grip on the rules and try to figure out what direction I want to go. Lots of planning and lots of work are ahead of me. Good thing I have plenty of people who are willing to answer my questions... Thanks all of you guys.
As long as you keep focused, even if not everyday, you'll reach your goal. Hope you will get to The Salt this coming year to check out cars in the cl*** you will be running in to get ideas on how to build yours.
Ok let be the only person here to **** in your corn flakes. #1 You don't build a car and look for a cl*** to put it in, you choose a cl*** and build your car to fit it. #2 Speed costs money pure 'n' simple. Now that said, building it yourself and going for broke on the salt is jam up bro. I probably don't have any more cash than you do but if there is any damned thing in the world I can do to help you in your quest to go fast drop me a note. I'll crank up the welder, dig through my junk or crank out prints if it will help you break 2 bills.
No **** on my corn flakes! #1) I totally agree. I have a ton of ideas floating around in my head. I don't really know enough about the cl***es to make on informed choice quite yet. When I find a cl*** that suits me and my car I will be set... I guess the only 2 books I will be reading for a while are my 2 Bibles... The Good Book and my SCTA Rule Book #2) Thats the hard part. I think I have a few ways to get some funding and I have the support of my whole family and a few of my friends. Plus I think I have a sponser to help with some of the costs of the speed parts. Thanks for your offer for the helping hand. I'll let ou know if I need it!
Hi Peten't any progress??? there was a guy on landracing ( currently offline) who knocked up a 302 Jimmy tank painted up Orange and Yellow.....next thing someone from Indy slings him a 322 just built with all the goods...anyone else remeber the d's on this'n? DrG
