been real slow getting any thing done with moving the shop and traveling for work but i did manage to get a few hours in on the A.

chopped done my grill shell and spent some time bending the new insert to get it to match the shell.

also spent alot of time drawing up new hubs for the front end to change the location of the rotors.

Put bearing races in my hubs.
Used a neat trick that works real well.
Heated the hubs in the oven at 450 degrees for about 20 minutes.
Keep the races in the freezer for a couple of days.
Took the hubs out of the oven and races out of the freezer and immediately put the races into the hot hubs.
They fell right in, without any pounding.

It's still too cold to do much work on the Essex, but I did spend most of the afternoon today organizing the garage. Now I can actually walk around it! I also did some preliminary measurements of our yard to try to determine where and how big I can build my new shop. My current garage is 12x20. If things go well, the new shop will be 20x28 with a 6x16 "tool room" extension along one side. Woohoo!!

Put my hood back on after having 208 louvers punched in it. At 25 cents a louver, I say that is quite a deal. If any of you guys are interested, the cat is in Springfield, OH and is a great guy to do business with.

Finished up all the loose ends and fired up and drove the 37 today with the new engine. Now i just gotta get the rest of the exhaust finished and the hood on and some more loose ends, but at least it runs!! Here is a little video of it in motion.

I drilled my axle, picked my spindles from the machine shop, cut 1 1/4'' holes in my radius rods and welded the sleeves in and also welded in the bungs fo the tie rod ends and got everything put together. Now I need to decide if I'm going to run disc or drums.[IMG]

I took the old lady out and asked her if she wanted to go to the cinematic in ohio in june. Then I took her shopping.

  15. Didn't anything "done" but I did spend some quality time with my long awaited cab and drag some 32 truck doors home.

Hehehehehe! I know the feeling of having no shop to play in. I haven't had a garage of any form since 1997. We just bought this place and the little garage was already here. It's 100% better than what I had before, but it's still not enough. The new shop will be built on the other side of the house and we'll use the old garage for my wife's gardening stuff and extra storage.

HOLESHOTS:D!:D!:D! Ran my transmission lines to the cooler, dropped it off the jack stands and made three hot laps around the block. First time the car has been on the street.

All I did was knock some old hack job body filler that some guy did way back when and straighten the metal which should have been done in the first place. Oh that and sanded more house paint off the Bird. I love it when people bondo over original paint without sanding it to bare metal. I guess the only reason it held up so long was because it sat for 30 yrs.

Put two exhaust valves through a cylinder head on my small block, bent three pushrods into pretzels, lodged one lifter at a45 degree angle in the block (lifter bore) and generally made a real nasty cocktail of oil and coolant. Died like a champ, foot in it, running strong . Right up to the point it grenaded. Sorry about that to the guy trying to keep up in the vette right behind me. Other than that real nice weekend.

  30. Drove from Columbus to Dayton to see a guy (Doug Times) that I was doing a bit of test metal work with. Had him do a really hard 1/4 skin job on a 40 Merc decklid - which is a bitch of a piece of metal (given the complex and multiple curves). He shaped the replacement panel on an English wheel and a planishing hammer and butt welded it all the way across the trunk lid -- that is not an easy thing to do. The sheetmetal on the Merc is original and about .035 thick. He did an excellent job - now onto a more serious project . . . my 34 coupe chop.

Then, when I got back, I welded the "cross supports" on my new frame jig - shut down the TIG welder about 12:30 am. Need to get lots done . . . spring is coming! I'll post the job drawings and design sometime in the next couple weeks.

    Here are the Merc pictures:
