This is an article that I came across last night while going thru my old magazine collection. It is the Louis Meyer story from "Indy's Greatest Champion". They mention Eddie Meyer in the article also. I will upload the scans from the "Car Life, Oct.62" and if the wording does not work on the HAMB I will load it on my "photobucket". Chris Nelson Kansa
If you have trouble reading the article........I posted it on my "photobucket" in larger res. http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b164/saltflats1948/
I was just talking on the phone with *Bud* Meyer today......he's a good friend......he would enjoy seeing this article I am sure.........I'll point him to it! CB
I've met Bud at my buddies house a few times and he is a really neat guy. Sharp as a tack! My buddy has built a mini museum covering the Meyer family. I will try to get some pictures and post them.
RetroJoe.........that would be great to see some pix or here some storys about the Meyer family......... CB, I sent the scans to you for "Bud".
I need to figure out how to re-size the pictures that I have of Doug's place. You can see in the background some of the Meyer stuff that he has. Any tips?
A couple of shots from RetroJoe......... -------------- From Rjoe's email......... I know it will be hard to do, but look past those "old" cars and you can see some of the Meyer stuff in the background. The wood sign and Champion clock came from Bud's shop. You can make out the casting plate for the original Eddie Meyer logo plates that he sold. The trophy has all the Meyers on it. It was a boat racing trophy from the late 30's early 40's. That was found on ebay of all places! My buddy has all kinds of cool Meyer stuff! Enjoy, Joe ________
It's really great (amazing) to see Bud Meyer was around on that 2008 post (90 yo)...and hope he's still going. Eddie Meyer had a shop about 2mi from my dad's and were long time friends. My dad and Bud had the exact same birthdate. We later drag raced a hydroplane that Bud and Harlan Orrin built and circle raced. Some fond anectdotes re Eddie: in the late 50's they were still racing an Offy midget...Eddie would handwrite maintenace tags all over it for Bud to fix. Bud joked about it (I adopted the same habit, but have to do the work myself). I guess they destroyed a crank in Offy once....Eddie disappiontingly complained that he had to pay $500....to his own brother. They were mechanical genius of the day!
