Does anyone run just a simple base coat? Or do most of you have a clear coat? I know if I want satin I have to add a dulling agent to the clear, but I just want to see what others have done.
I've seen many a car with really cool paint jobs that are just basecoat. Cool panel jobs and fades, etc. and they can have a satin look without flattening a clearcoat. They wash up fine and last for a long time, especially if garaged. Also a good alternative to tintable-sealer, which can sometimes look a little "thick". -ns
I ran a basecoat with a UV additive on my Fairlane. It's been on there for 4 years and is just barely starting to show its age. It does knick fairly easily. Next time (after the Roundup) I'm going to do a proper suede coat with clear. Done correctly, that should last a loooong time.....or until I decide to change it again!
yeah i definitely don't want the expense of a sealer, if i go that route then i'll just dull the clear. A quart of dupont clear runs $43. So it may be worth it in the long run.
John Deere Blitz Black. Yes tractor paint. A little shiney but if you hit it with a scrunge pad it dulls down. It's a really hard paint and a real good price per gallon.
