Hey all, I have been gone a while but was wondering if anyone has done a frame swap on a '56 Olds Super 88 2 door? I am wanting to put a more moder frame underneath it. I was thinking late 70's on up frame. Does anyone have any ideas on what would work?
There's alot of work involved with a full-on frame swap. You may be better off just doing a newer front clip - maybe Monte Carlo? A friend of mine just put a Monte clip on a '53 Buick and it seemed to work out pretty well. Does your car currently have coil springs in the back? Malcolm
mm don't know, the frames are pretty wide. If you want to upgrade stuff you could stick with the stock front end and swap out to disc brakes (I dont remember the donor cars, do a search on here, there were some kits on ebay for front and rear some time ago, the details are here somewhere). The rear ends are big and strong, so theres no problem there. If you want to go the whole hog fatman do a MII front frame stub.
Check with Morrison's. They do a lot of new frames for tri five Chevies and such. Maybe a 56 Olds could use one of their existing frames. I did a frame swap on a 71 Monte years ago and it was no picnic and we didn't use a different frame just a replacement new one. Good luck.
is your frame bad? if your wanting disc upgrade check with mark at www.scarebird.com he's in the seattle area and a hamber.
it has a leaf set up but there are coils over the rear axle on both sides that have what looks like air bags in them.
Doing a ch***is swap on a 52 chev now. It"s no day at the beach but worth the effort. Ride is a-some . New car.
