Yes she is I guess. She owns this 33 Aussie 5 window coupe, bought it a few years. Sold her daily and bought this as a daily. Good move I reckon. She is also has a 65 mustang.
my mom is not a hot rodder, but she likes to ride in my truck, when i was a kid you could hear my chevelle coming a few blocks away,my mom thought that was cool, she kenw when i was coming home
My mom has a spark of it. She drove Jeeps for a while (all with V8s because the 6s were weak) and then a Vette but I just asked her to pick up a parts truck for me on their way home from Florida at the end of the month and she told me two things: 1. I have enough junk. 2. She didn't want to be seen hauling that Kentucky trash back to Michigan. I guess I'll have to go get it myself! Oh she did say that I must be able to get rich with scrap as high as it is. My wife told me not to clean up the yard too much or mom might start coming over! And Moparme, did you get it??? I'd figure out a way. Fred Flinstone or not!
My mama is a hot rod mama! She loves going to car shows and the drags with me. She has had some sweet cars in the past and is looking at buying a Chevelle right now. She always encourages me when I am working on my cars (and asks a lot of questions... ). She has also been really great about spreading the bug to my nephew by taking him to shows and events in her daily with seatbelts. I really need to start bringing her around to HAMB stuff. She would really enjoy meeting you all!
Absolutely not. Dad was a WW2 vet and hellraiser that eventually settled down with a proper lady, Mom. She rounded off some of his rough edges, but he regressed a bit the day in '56 he brought home a new black/white Buick Special. Soon as we hit the main road he put pedal to metal and wound it 'til there was no more, 3 little boys in back grinning ear to ear, and Mom screaming bloody murder in front.
My Mom is long gone -- and she really did not enjoy the hot rod hobby -- BUT -- she did encourage Dad and I in it -- AND -- she would always bring us Cokes and water out in the garage when it would get hot and we were out there working on cars I miss her
The only horses my mother likes are the kind you ride.... When I haul for her I usually spend more time looking at the towing rigs at those events. My grandma was somewhat of one, she drove like a maniac and had a 4 speed Comet and a big block Chevelle.
I found an old, creased pic in my dad's wallet after he passed away. It was obviously taken from the bow of the hydroplane he used to race, looking toward the stern. My mom driving the boat, rooster-tail arcing up in the wake. She's in a bikini. Dark cat-eye sunglasses. Big smile. And lots of cleavage. I know why he married her.
As the story is told, my dad bought a fairly new '61 Ford Starliner with a 390 and a three speed, beutiful car. He proceeded to make cut outs for it and 'tune' the engine proper. They took it out to the drag strip frequently and my mom drove it. She was six month pregnant with me during one race she won. After the local 'pro' racer she beat found out a woman had beaten him, he quite racing. I don't know if he ever found out she was pregnant at the time... To this day, the sounds of the drag strip bring tears to my eyes... r
my mom: "oh, i saw this car for sale, i really like it" me: "what kind of car was it" mom: "a red one"
My dad always told me I got my lead foot from my mom. My dad loved cars, my mom loved driving them.. especially if it had a stick. Neither were in to hotrods. Both are gone now, but I think they would have approved of both of mine.
I generally blame my Dad for my car adiction, but yes, my mother had a hand in it too. She's the one who taught me how to do a burn out correctly, how to read 12V wiring schematics, and told me "if you've got time to read guages, you're not going fast enough". The only real "fight" I remember my parents having when I was a kid was when she told the old man "that's way too much carb for the cam you've got in there -- it runs like crap because you're over-fueling it." She turned 62 last year, drives Nissan 350Z, and is on her third set of tires in two years with that thing. She works at a seniors' care facility and likes to entertain the residents with brake stands in the parking lot from time to time.
Hey guys My mom was the more typical mom, in that she didn't build or drive cars hard. She always supported our car habits. My dad is a different story! Since I can remember, he has had several nice cars ('60 TR3A, '63 Impala SS 'vert, etc.). My dad bought my brother and I old trucks to rebuild, with his help, of course. Mine is (still got it) 1946 Chevy PU and my brothers is (yup, still got it) 1941 Chevy Panel. Dad has a 1938 Chevy 2-door sedan. I lost my mom to metastatic breast cancer in January. She fought it for 2.5 years, but the cancer fought harder. Luckily, I was there when she passed. Sure do miss her! I find myself thinking of calling her! At least I know where she is, and I'll be with her there one day. I feel for all of you that have lost loved ones. For those of you that have never lost a parent, I hope it's a long time coming. Word to the wise though...if there's ANYTHING you want to know, ask NOW! Tomorrow may be too late!
my poor mom really had no choice with my pops and me and all our junk.mom drove a 71 nova bought brand new.i can remember her driving me to grade school in it,it was silver with a set of crager s/s wheels,a 307 whith a three speed. ended up buying it from her when i turned 16,thought i was the shit......then she ended up with a canary yellow 64 corvette that she just sold a few years back....damn my moms cool....
Mom's first car was a '66 Mustang Fastback when she turned 14. My grandpa bought it for her as long as she took her little brothers to school and run errands. At 17 she met my dad at some local street races and he had a '66 Chevelle that was the "King of the Kleberg County". I came in after that and along the years she's had several muscle cars of her own, along with my dad's machines. When I lived at home, I always had something fast, as did all my friends, and she always told us to light the tires when we left the house, just to piss off the neighbors, haha. Now she drives a custom ordered '05 Mustang GT 5-spd with Flowmaster Exhaust, and as soon as the warranty runs out it gets a pretty little Paxton. The Mustang is her first new car, and the first car my folks have purchased new and financed since '75. When my dad and I picked the car up from the dealer, we took it home before she got there to surprise her with it. The look on her face when she pulled up was irreplaceable. Smiling ear to ear, she backed out of the driveway, and side stepped the clutch blowing white smoke from the tires sideways down the street. I love my mom.
Mom had a 56 Belair 2dr hardtop.three on the tree...Even had a diecast of one in her living room when she passed away at age 94.....Probably up there watching me building a 32 full fendered deuce....
I can't say my mom was a hot rodder but she did by a copy of Popular Hot Rod back in '64 that I had managed to get into at Fremont. Put it in the basket with the the rest of the weeks food. Must have faked out the checker.
