I used a towing "stick on mirror" over the p***enger side peep mirror. It works great on my 51 suburban. Just go to your local auto parts store and find a round one that will match the diameter. Mine fit perfect and you can't even tell.
Here's what ya need, Spike. But you have to grow the moustache, too. Seriously, my vote is for NO mirrors on a custom. You don't need them for inspections in PA, and they just clutter things up.
I took both sideview mirrors off of my Olds. I found a mirror that articulated enough to place it inside of the car. I attached the small mirror to the A pilar trim at the top just below the visor. The thing has worked beautiful for 3 years now with no lose of field of vision!!! I'll see if I can snap a picture of it and post it here!!!
the gl*** on my inside rear view fell off and broke , I was headed to a show and I needed something so I looked around and found a 4" fisheye ( convex ) mirror and glued it on to what was left. I could see R & L and behind , not in great detail but enough to know if something was there. it worked so well I removed my side view mirror, never liked them anyway. it worked well for 2 years but, I did get some strange looks form fellas when they noticed it.
Thanks rockabillybus. Using those stick on convex mirrors had crossed my mind. I'll try it out this weekend (I'd much rather save any $$$ for other things on the "car needs this" list). ricki
Ya, outside mirrors **** on a kustom. But, if you have people riding in the car with you it can be real tough to look around them to see out. Most p***enger side mirrors are for decoration because you usually can not angle them enough to see anything. The swan neck style is not bad. But, you can find them cheaper at other places than So-Cal. Try Bob Drake and others. Don't shoot me, but Billet Specialties has some really nice chrome (no billet look) ones-a little pricey. My kustom will have mirrors, just like it has seat belts-safety.
"You need the mirrors off a late model G.M. product with the L.E.D. turn indictactors in the mirror. They will accent your digital dash and billet tilt wheel nicely." Don't laugh, you'd get lots of show points with the judges based on the shows this year. They would match your '96-01" Mercedes headlights and recessed door handles. I run peep mirrors on my '49 Ford. They look cool, but the visability isn't great and they take a while to get used to. I will likely run tri-five chevy or swan neck mirrors after I chop it.
I finally 2 years ago put a stock '49-'51 mirror on my chopped shoebox. I don't love it, but it doesn't ****. Much better, although I still can't tell much about what's going on outside of my car through my tiny windows. I think there's other cars driving and buildings and stuff.
ive never had side mirrors. totally kills the smooth look to me. i always drive with both my sunvisors flipped down, and have fisheye mirrors stuck on them. works a treat! though i guess for you guys lucky enough to drive a car with a heavy roofchop this isnt really an option...
Them's trucker mirrors. Maybe not the hinge pin mount, but you can get something that looks like that at a truck stop for (probably) really cheap. They look a little too big for a pre-war car to me, but they might be OK on a 50s custom.
