Im working on a 51 Merc 2 dr I bought here on the HAMB that was a total rustbucket. Finally got the car up to par to chop (remaking inner rockers/floors/a and b pillars) so my friend Ryan and I had at it last weekend. Now before I finish teh roof I wanna put the doors back on so I know its all right before I finish weld it all. So, the past few days Ive been working on the passenger door, which teh lower 12" or so were victim to rust. Remake the whole thing, even the BS curves on the sides only to discover SOMEHOW the door is 1/2" shorter than the other from top to bottom. GRRRR...I measured a million times just must have made a dumb mistake at some point. Now in the process of recutting it and fixing it.

Anyone have experiences in disparaging moments like that where for that fleeting moment you want to just sell your tools and find a new hobby?

Metal is better than wood, cause when you fuck up and cut it to short, I can always weld to make it longer again

    LOL

Just build the rocker up with "Merc in a Can" to meet it. Done.

When I was building my "current" shop truck , the 50 Ford, for a friend of mine, I decided to upgrade the steering, using a late model Saginaw box. The rest of the front end was stock, except for a disc brake conversion. I spent about 2 weeks making an adapter plate, cutting and welding the frame for it, reworking the pitman arm, modifying the steering column, and pedal assemblies so the stock brake and clutch pedals would work with the new steering linkage, no interference or anything. I finally got it all done, and proud as hell, let the owner sit inside and try the pedals, steering effort etc.
Jim sat there, tried it all out, and then said " is the steering SUPPOSED to work like this?"
The wheels were going in the opposite direction that the steering wheel was!

When i have moments like these, they tend to last for days.I look at my hands and wonder who they belong to because sometimes they just dont listen to me.In time my hands do return.
