I was thinking about the junkyards that I know about in remote areas. Some are so good that it is insane to think they still have so much good stuff. Now the problem is I love them, but I seriously don't want to tell others about the yard. Is this a sign of the sickness? Seriously, I have too many projects now and I can't get anymore cars. The junkyard I want to reveal has TONS of old stuff, like vintage race cars AS DRIVEN in the 40s-50s, tons of old Fords 30s-60s, and lot of other rare stuff. I think this yard has more old Ford V8 Flatheads than ANY other place I've ever been. Let's play a bit of a game. This yard is in Missouri about 1-1/2 hours from Kansas City. I'm not going to reveal it until I can visit it again and PROVE with photos. However, I was wondering if anyone else on the HAMB knew about it? The sickness.... Oh yeah, there is a friend's yard who must have 20 tri-year Chevys but that is another crazy story... I can't be the only one holding this information back!?!
Problem is, when the price of steel goes up, these places disappear fast. You could go back and find an empty field, like happened to me. Might be better to "spread the wealth" before the crusher comes.
if you keep holding back and your not going to go get them , than i dont see the point. let us all know so some of them can get saved before they are crushed and made in to a honda or a focus.
Keep holding back and preventing the yard from getting buisiness. Eventually, it will go under and everything will get crushed.
If I run across stuff that I don't need, I spread the word. I know at some point someone will return the favor. Just like the Stock Model A guys who hoard everything up and have no intention on ever doing with it. Granted it's their stuff to do as they see fit, but if the guy is already 85 yrs old.. do you really think he needs enough parts to build 5 complete cars?
So you're wondering if you're sick that you want to keep good parts from finding homes, projects to rust away to nothing, and a yard owner to go out of business and crush out, all because you might want some doo-dads for projects you'll never finish? Yeah.. you're a sick bastard.
Wiley's in Leavenworth? Hell man, clue me in! I'm poor as hell these days, and you surely don't have anything to worry about with ME buying the place up. Next time you're going to be out there, PM me and I'll meet you there! ~Jason
....we don't need to play games, just tell everyone where this stuff is so it can be saved; you'll feel good after you do.
you cant have them all and if other do not get them, they will be turned to scrap metal once the rate gets high enough that the trouble to keep the cars around is offset by the value of the metal and ease of disposal. Give up the spot, it might not be as much of a secret as you think....
I dont think you have a sickness. It sounds like your in touch with your inner feelings. Sure, we all like to hoard, its human nature to protect something that you may lose. But, these guys are right, I just went out to a yard that has alot of old cars too. The scraper cleaned out half the yard in the fall, and is returning this spring for the rest. Im sure he is getting the better end of the deal.
I think we are all sick bastards on this sight. Not just because we hold back on finds, but rather our sickness for cars. Sorry, there is no cure. Except divorce or death!
Yeah, you're sick. Is it the one up near Cameron? If not, give us a name so we can rescue some of the stuff before the Chinese make cheap tractors out of it.
Crackheads hide their rocks from other heads, if they have any left, and that's a sickness. Old cars are crack.
In the Army thats known as being 'Jack' on your mates and is ALWAYS punished with a severe beating. There is no worse crime to us than not looking after your mates. What way do you want to go?
Is it this one? Or should I say was this the one? I just got word that it's been crushed. I will be in Kansas City in a few weeks for the holidays...I need to revisit some stompin' grounds. I've heard this one just outside of Excelsior Springs is no longer. Also heard Topeka Auto Salvage crushed all there good stuff. Any junkyard advice is appreciated. I am looking for early 30's stuff, Dodge is my current project. Kurt
Holding out on fellow friends or folks who share the same passion, is purely fucked up. What happens when the cars get scrapped? EVERYONE loses..not just you. think about it.
Who is that directed to? 40PlyCoupe never followed up with photos. Original post was 9 months ago. Just curious, as I will be back home visiting soon and would love a way to make my holiday a bit more enjoyable.
Hey fellas I hate to tell you the bad news but they are gone!!!!!!!!!!!! They got crushed about late summer early fall! I walked through the yard I am guessing that I looked at close to 600 cars, some good and some needed crushed. I talked with the owners and you could have bought any car there for the going rate of scrap. BUT it would have taked a dozer to get some of the out of there. Hell I could tell this stury for hours if we was all together drinking beer and bench racing or talking about how we would build that one car that got crushed!! Later Dodge Guy
Guess you might as well of told everyone here where they were. Some of them might have been saved.....
wait a minute! what location are we talking about, just to be sure. Lets drag somebody out behind the bar after we are done bench racing and...your right about the dozer, if its the place I pictured.
Holy crap! I kind of forgot about this thread. I thought someone on here would surely know about it. And you are right, I DON'T need to hoard all the cool stuff that is out there. Here is your early Christmas present - Lorenz Service "Older Cars & Parts" One half mile northeast of Corder Bus phone 1-660-394-2423 Res phone 1-660-394-2612 Highway 20 Corder, Missouri I would say is stockpile is mainly 50's stuff, but he has a little bit of EVERYTHING. For example, I'm pretty sure I saw a '37 Ford coupe that was previously used as a dirt oval car. The car still had the cage, relocated fuel tank - just sitting there waiting for someone to buy it. Merry Christmas! '40PlyCoupe
3 things i noticed about the HAMB that bug the shit outta me: one is this kinda post!! "great junkyard.. fuck you where it is!!" ..two: "Just got this sweet barn find" Fuck you how much i paid for it!!" & three.. ya buy something & ya post it and someone posts back"You paid too much!! I bought/sold/ someones selling/ a better one for...( Fuck you insert the lowest amount here)" These are getting alittle annoying on here.If you not going to help out a fellow HAMB'r don't run the post, we don't need our noses rubbed in it!! Jim" My 2 cents" V PS forgot.. the "tractor grill" posts are also getting tiring.
PS "'40 ply coupe" its very big of you to realize the errs of your ways(lol) & to Man up with the location!! Wish more would do that. jimV
I thought the grandkids sent it all to the scrapper after the county got on them. One of the grandsons was in a little trouble with the law about 10 years back. I used to walk that yard for hours making pipe dreams of hotrods yet to come. Those where the years when I was deciding which meals I would skip to make rent. The county went on a rampage after the fire at the local tire store's dump. I think Hwy 5 Auto Service was the first to fall. Then Alvey Wise's yard, Wiley's and finally Christie's. There are some private yards scattered around Leavenworth/Wyandotte County but nowhere near the selection.
