Also asked on the Jockey board, let's try here too.. I'll be there the first three weeks of March... Anything you guys would recommend to go and check out. I'd love to do some car/motorcycle photography. Thanks, -Maurice
About the only thing that i'm aware of is the "Autorama" indoor car show at the Southtowne Center in Sandy (a suburb on the south end of SLC) This runs from Feb 29 thru March 2nd.You may be able to line up some cars to shoot there. If you are interested, let me know and I'll get you some admission tickets. Mick
That's about the only thing going on in March. Pretty early in the season, its still winter. Here's the website for the autorama. I'll be there. http://www.autorama.com/casi/saltlake.htm If you're up for some travelling, the Boise roadster show is the following weekend. Boise's about 325 miles (5-6 hour drive). http://www.firebirdonline.com/RoadsterShow/boise.htm Tom
If you can get him to take you to his shop, google Jeff Decker. He's the motorbike sculptor and he lives about 50 miles South of SLC in Springville. Has some insanely rare traditional bikes and a cool '32 3 window his dad used to race. He has a real Crocker and he bobbed it! Also his art is second to none, and his uncle owns a private machine shop where they whittle down one off castings for cyclo engines! Jeff casts cool stuff at his foundry. Google his name and try contacting him. If that doesn't work, contact The Trolley restaurant in Springville Utah. His wife owns it and the kids work there. I bet if you asked nicely they would get him on the phone. And his museum/studio is right down the street. He also has an insane sign collection.
And if you go to Springville , you might as well go on over the Mountain and see Bo Huff (if you like his stuff)-
Bo Huff has some great cars. I can PM you an address/directions for a friend of mine's shop. You'll have to contact him in advance, but he may be willing to let you take some photo's. Crazy bike collection and tons of cool old sign's and stuff. No choppers, everythings real deal and restored to original condition. Let me know. PM me when you get closer to coming out and maybe I can take you over there. I have a couple other private shops/collections you may be interested in photographing.
Wait a minute.... you're coming over from Europe? OK, I know it will likely be either covered in snow or a wet mess, but if I were you I'd drive out to the salt flats just so you can say you've seen it. Pretty unique sight, no matter the conditions. It's about a 2hr drive from Salt Lake. You can stay the night in Wendover and watch Midget Wrestling.....
Anybody know if Ardelll Brown shows off his Cars to private individuals? If he did, that would be something to take a photo of- check that-here is a thought- http://storefront.dexonline.com/ardell-brown-classic-cars
Feel free to send a PM when you get in... I'm new to the city (2 months) but I'd love to shoot the breeze with you and grab some dinner.
Good idea. Yes he has a showroom that's open to the public during normal business hours. www.ardellscars.com I have spoken with Angi Christensen out there. Her email address is: angil427@yahoo.com She invited me to come over for a tour, but I have yet to make it out there. They are across the street from the expo center where the autorama will take place. But they will probably not be open during the autorama because they and many of the cars will all be at the show.
And if you want some good food drop me a line. We just cut some beef up so I got plenty! And I use my grill more than my stove so I'm always down for throwing a few steaks on!
Take the drive and check out Bonneville. You're only going to be a couple of hours away, it would be crazy not to go and just check it out. The landscape is pretty amazing and when you go into Wendover you'll be able to look towards the flats and see the curve of the Earth. Apparently this is the only place on the planet where you can see it.
