the best smell, old oil or perfume?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by duste01, Mar 21, 2008.

  1. Got to agree that a set of tires fried up on a Saturday night has a smell all its own! Reminds me of a certain 70 Chevelle I used to own.....

For me, two stroke smoke was my favorite. Back in my shifter kart days running right behind someone drafting at 125mph, with additives mix in,mmmm, mmmm, good stuff, lots of carbon foot prints there. Sprint and midget races are alway good too, with methinal, brake dust, hot rubber.

How about used gear oil from a mercruiser outdrive. Smells nasty but you go back and take another whiff. Takes forever to wash off your hands though, if you get it on your clothes, throw them away!

regular raw leaded gasoline (the stuff they don't make anymore), burned 114 octane v.p race gas, burned nitro, tire smoke, laquer paint and laquer thinner, bondo, fiberglass, old car interiors, 2 cycle exhaust and the smell of a freshly bathed woman.

had a set of tires on my 71 chevelle called "grand-am superwides"
smoke them up, and they smelled like mcdonalds cheeseburgers.

my friend had a set of "zenith" tires on a 67 camaro(we called them the t.v. tires). he'd do a burnout and the smell was aweful...smelled like old rotten garbage.

i stuck a dead carp under the seat of my friends car in the middle of summer. i'll never forget the smell of the bloody nose and busted lip that he gave me.

Old metal, absolutely. Machine shop in general. But it has to be a real shop not a modern, sterile, cnc environment. Any other machinists ever notice how cnc cutting fluid/ coolant smells like lard? just sort of rancid. Old shops remind me of being an apprentice and my grandfathers basement. Other than that, Cam2, gun oil (Hoppes or Mil-spec) and the back of a womens neck. Also coming back to America from anywhere else.

  11. come to think of it, old machine shops are pretty cool smellin.. sort of reminds me the sh* t house door on a shrimp boat, that I worked on

marvel mystery oil, I love the smell when I clean my guns.

  13. Kinda wierd.... I see this thread and I'm finally reading Smokey Yunicks book I got a while back. Just today I run across this very thing. He says his favorite was the smell of "Indy cars, the fuel, the oil, everything. But even THAT was second only to a freshly bathed lady in heat." Ol Smoke knew what he was talkin about, huh?
