how many of you have actually seen the car in person? I saw this car in paso last year and I was completely blown away, and I didn't even know or care who built it. in person it just works, nose cone and all.

Just to set some people straight. Chip is a great guy. One of the nicest big name guys I have ever met. I have been a big fan of his for many years. He has designed and built some of the coolest cars I have ever seen. His contribution to our hobby has been huge and I'm sure will be for many years to come. I just don't think this is one of his better ideas by any means. I'm sure the workmanship is fantastic just like all his cars but like I said above I just don't like it from Chip Foose.

See, I told ya it was an easy fix. Now lose the peace sign in the grill and you'll have it.

I like it, but I am tired of "follow the leader" hot rods. Besides that, if it had a traditional grill and windshield, we would not be talking about it for 7 pages.

Actually, the car seems to be in step with the times. aircraft seats, bare metal, post WWII era. Maybe a little too "edgy" for the middle of the road enthusiast, which is surprising since Chip's stuff is usually somewhat conservative.

    I'll give it a B+.

According to the article in SR, the nose cone was stamped at Quality Metalcraft in Michigan. In my humble opinion they could have saved the effort and left the nose cone off and they would have had a nice car.
There are a couple good articles in this issue of Street Rodder, including one on Model A and B 4 cylinders and another on Mopar Polysphere engines.

I like the car, But I have to agree I dont like the cone on the grill shell. But its his vision, and he followed through with it. The fabrication and steering on the car is amazing. That being said, Chip is one of the most ******** car guys around. That guy can do it all, draw the car, hop on the lathe make parts for the car, go to the welding bench and weld parts for the car etc. etc. You get it. He is also one of the nicest guys, I got to meet him when my friend Charlie Hutton was working for him, I drove the maroon 32, with the Olds engine that we built to his shop for lunch one day. As soon as I pulled up, Chip was running outside to check out the car. From that day on everytime I see him he always has a handshake and a "Hey Jimmy how are you". I guess what I am trying to say is, the guy is really nice, really ********, and deserves respect from any arena of Car Crafting.

I saw this car at SEMA in person. Pictures do very little for this car. When you stand and look at it there is so much going on, and not in a "busy" kind of way. The car really is amazing! The craftsmanship is outSTANDING, the mechanics are amazing, everything is period correct in the car for the era he designed around. I'm not fan of the nose cone either, but I understand why it's there. Something else is the Zephyr flatty... that's a good sized motor and you would NEVER guess that it was crammed in there unless being the wiser.

I honestly don't know how anyone could say anything negative about the car until they've actually been in it's presence. I'm telling you, pictures just don't do it.

    Mad respect to Foose!

More pictures that don't do it justice.

I always thought of the car as.... If Howard Hughes were to design a hot rod, this is what he would have come up with...

Just speaking purely of the car, the nose cone/spinner doesn't jive with it... everything else about the car is top notch , totally killer and just spectacular ...

My own personal retarded opinion would just to have a ring there denoting where the spinner should be connecting to the radiator splits on the bottom of the grill ,,, but that nose makes the car look **** ugly like a "Dog Nosed Saber" and not fluid.

Anybody who knows f-86's knows of what I am talking about.

the cars like these are starting to look like space ships. These are not hot rods because the people who build them aren't real hot rodders.

That's the trouble with building a "theme" car or bike for that matter. It doesn't all work for the majority of us no matter what the quality of the work is.
On another note I just noticed that I have a set of goggles in my treasure box that my Dad wore in WWII that are pretty much identical to those hanging on the shifter.

thr cars are starting to look like space ships.Real hot rods aren't built by these guys because they aren't real hot rodders. the real ones are most of the people in this HAMB group who know what it's like to work in a bare bones garage and have to make, adapt, scrounge a lot of the stuff.

I really don't care if Chip is a nice guy or that he has amazing talents. Were not talking about Chip, were talking about a car that has an ugly nose. That's it.

I think its awesome. the interior is amazing as is the overall craftsmanship of the whole car, like where the steering arms and the wishbones go through the frame. The whole steering setup is crazy. I love it.

Very well said blacktop. These guys are "johnny-come-latelys" who
don't know what it's like to build one under our conditions or situations.

No...what he'd like to say is... he's had a few. And he has to build cars with less (as a real hot rodder) because he spends most of his $$$ on alcohol :) :)

He's also never heard of Sam Foose. I hope he can afford Advil for the hangover...LOL!!!

FWIW (and I'll bet Chip doesn't care... it's his ride) I like it! I get the nose cone.... Kinda has a "Back Seat Betty" vibe... but not ugly! :)

Sam taught his boy well and, Jr. was just thinking outside that box, maybe to far for most of us. Imo I don't like the nose cone either. Dig the engine, pipes, windscreen, and that ford-Ferguson tractor steering is well done. that grill is like the holly grail to hotroddington, m***age with caution.

I was just wondering if anybody read the Q&A in Street Rodder with Eric Geisert and Foose. It explains his thoughts on the car , who helped build it and his ideas behind the car. It just cracks me up when guy's with little to no talent can out build Foose. If your metal work is better than Parkers or Marcel's why don't you work there. Lots of bashing by fng's lately. It's getting old and boring...

  30. The cool thing about hot rodding is there are NO RULES. Building hot rods gives you the freedom to dream........ then create. A common thread a**** builders is to make their rod unique, to do something that has'nt been done yet. Would'nt hot rod events be boring if all you saw were Red 32 Ford Coupes or Black 32 Ford Roadsters? Chip Foose is a very talented builder, you could say a chip off the old block! Some times when you push the envelope of design you create controversy a**** your peers. Another good example from last year was Posies 1947 Chevrolet Fleetliner sedan. (June 2007 Street Rodder) This fenderless sedan was even more radical in design than Chips roadster.
