Here are few pictures of my altered that my dad and I built. Its powered by a Pontiac 400 and has ran a best of 10.69 @ 131 m.p.h. I just finished installing the dual AFB's carbs on it and we shortend the wheel base to 92 inchs. I will post some better pictures with the new induction set up when the weather improves and its out of the garage.
I love it! It's what drag racing needs more of today. The altereds were typically a gr*** roots means to go fast without breaking the bank. I fondly remember this Bantam built and driven by Dave Green, the father of NASCAR racers David, Jeff and Mark Green.
Outstanding! It is great to see Pontiac powered in an altered. Enjoy that thing and I wish you were closer to Arizona to attend Pontiac Heaven. Steve Barcak www.pontiacheaven.org
nice altered. I'm building a t altered using a banjo rear with 31 spline axles that I hope will stay together.should run this season
Like it much better with the duals. Thought of running zoomies? Or are you allowed to? I'm thinking Halibrands and spindle-mount 12-spokes. HUH,HUH? Just messing with you...
I love the car. Now, please forgive my ignorance. I've been intrigued with building an altered, but never knew what to start with. Is that essentially a California Custom Roadster frame with a cage on it? I mean, 2X3 box tube, with a cage around the driver? I've been ac***ulating the parts to build a decent 307 Chevy and it'd be perfect for something like that. I see your from the Mitten, I live in Canton and would like to check it out sometime for build ideas. Again, sweet ride. jay
I am still working on the wheels, I have the same thoughts and not the cash yet to pull it off. As far as the zoomies, I have everthing to do them but alot of guys told me it would kill my low end power and being a Pontiac powered thats where I make a lot of the grunt, but i still might make them up and try it just to see. I really dig your altered. I'm ***uming your roll cage is ok to 9.99 sec. Did you buy a pre-fab roll cage, bend it yourself (if so, how), have it done locally or by a big fab shop mail order? Thanks for any info you can provide.
Yep it meets to 9.99, a friend and i purchased a actual tubing bender and we bent the cage ourselfs ( It was expensive purchase but we have used the heck out of it, he road races GT-1 cars in the SCCA so we figured between the two of us it would be used alot. ) If you were interested I know that if you made templates of what you wanted bent and had the tubing a local shop with the right equipment would be your best bet for a one time project.
