Man what a great show this was! Such a nice relief from most of the other shows! Just the right amount of people, over 500 great cars to look at! The bands, the vendors, the music, and the Bar-B-Q were great too! I heard Garlits was being a **** as usual first thing in the morning, so I hope we get to have this show around next year! You're right, it was a great show. I spoke to Don early in the morning about a couple of concerns he had but he was cool. Some folks were abusing the parking reserved for his museum customers so he had a legit concern. Next year we will be able to handle it. Don can be grumpy but, he's always been cool with me. After the show, then Poor Boys were treated to some great stories of Don's early hot rod days. He had as good a time as anyone there. If he wasn't happy, we wouldn't have been discussing Billitproof II. Thanks for coming. Mike
Yeh, I'm not being trying to be a sourpuss with Daddy, but my Dad was a car show promoter back in the 80's and we had a few "run-ins" with him that just kinda turned things sour. Same at the Turky Rod Run in Daytona a few years back. The show was top-notch though. Look forward to next year! I was happy they were a little more slack on the rules. I saw more than one car with a few small billet parts, like my own, which I didnt bring for that reason. Next year I'll drive up there for sure. It was truly one of the best shows I've ever attended in recent years!
the rules were not more lax. Here is the deal.. every year, at every Billetproof show there is a car or two that get in for one reason or another with some part on it that is against the rules. It happens. Is it intentional? No. Does it mean that EVERYONE with a non-traditional car or with a traditional car with some obvious billet parts on them can get in? No. Some people blow past the people telling them to leave. I'm not going to ask anyone working the gate to lay down in front of a car. The word usually gets p***ed on to me and I take care of it. Sometimes I have more important things to do so a car gets to stay in the show that shouldnt be there. Other times there is a bit of confusion at the gate and cars get in that shouldnt. I know that was the case at this show. We were asked to keep cars from lining up on the street to keep the Marion County Sheriff's Dept. happy. We complied and some cars drove in off the street that should have bee turned away. there was one car in particular, and one owner that will remain nameless that I just let in to so that he did not meet with a nasty end at the hands of the Billetproof staff. I had discussed his car with him previous to the show and told him that it did not fit the rules. He was determined to "beat" the rules and told everyone as much. He will be made an example of and he and his car are not welcome back at Billetproof. Now... having said that... the VAST MAJORITY of the cars at the show fit the rules and truly belonged at the show. I know of 2-3 that didnt... 2 or 3 out of 500? thats a good show. the guys at the gate DID turn people away. With one exception the rejections were met with grace and cl***. Thank you very much. It was indeed a VERY good show. I'm REALLY impressed with how well it ran, the quan***y and most of all the quality of cars present. well see you next year.
Can I ask a dumb question? Are gl***' cars allowed? My daily driver is a gl*** bodied 32' Ford coupe. It's been my faithful driver rain or shine for almost 8 years now. It came to life in my garage with the help of my friends, and it's built in a traditional 60's style for the most part. Most of it is painted body color. It does have A/C now, it was rough driving it the first 3 years in the summer. I'd like to bring it next year, even if it only makes it to the spectators parking lot. (It does have aluminum pulleys and some polished parts on the AC unit)
thanks alan..i very much liked working the gate, what a great job to have at the show..you get a chance to see the cars and the people that drive them..looking forward to next year...i was fun turning away the billet wheeled cars and trucks...but everybody was nice about it except the one guy but we will get the last laugh on that ...its hard being the **** that tells you that you can't get it the show...and the people that do i bet they change the look of there car so they can get it next year......wow what a blast...dave
Fibergl*** cars are OK if they have the look. So long as you don't have any obvious billet on the car it's OK. Look at some of the picture threads from the show to get an idea of what the cars should be.
Fibergl*** cars are ok as long as they are done up in traditional style. That is what the show is alllll about..... traditional style. We are not going to take a magnet to every car that rolls through the gate. Never have, no reason to start now.
It was a great show. Thanks to Gator for the pinstriping trohy. It was great to meet new guys and see lots of old friends. Looking forward to next year.
It was a great shw. An awesome turnout and a lot of really cool stuff. I think you put on an awesome show, and I cant wait for the Michigan one...Great job Alan, and good to meet you.....
Policing the gate would be tough...but you guys did a great job....a couple sneaked through, but some people just don't get it....their cars don't belong...them either.
Hey Alan it was our first show ever as a vendor, and we had a blast thanks for makig us feel welcome. We will definetly be back next year, and also it was nice meeting alot of you from on this board
like the other guys said gl*** cars aren't an issue if built properly, after all one of our cars that was in the show is gl***, and two of our cars had A/C on them. the key is style man, a lot can be made to look right if the effort is put into it.
Thanks for the replys! I didn't bring my car up because it does have a few billet parts, as well as I wasn't too sure how the roads were since I hadn't been up that way in about 10 years. They used to ****, and I've got aluminum racing seats with little padding! I also wanted to scope out the gas station situation, since I'm gettin' 8-10mpg. There still isn't **** on SR 40 really, but the road is primo smooth most of the way now, on top of just plain nice scenery and a serious lack of traffic! I'll be back next year sans the billet parts probably. I've been wanting the dual intake caddy air cleaner, but not sure it will clear everything. YES, I have A/C.
let's hope that the show next year is as good - cause this show was GREAT! I am sure that word of mouth will only make this show stronger! I really commend the Poor Boys for the organization and help that they provided and Alan and his wife have to be ready for some sleep this week cause they busted their ****s getting this done. The response to the first issue of our mini magazine was really good at this show and I wanna thank everyone that purchased! Some of ya even purchased 2 issues! THANKS x 2! ha.... Good job to all and look forward to seeing ya'll next year Later John Wells Vintage Torque www.vintagetorque.com
To all that have never put on a show or been to a traditional show this is no easy feet. You cannot make everyone happy and if you try you will fail. The poor boys detroit have been doing this show for 5 years now and I think we have an awesome show. Florida has the potential to be and awesome event. I thought for the 1st one that it was great. The parking of the cars needs some improvement and you will not get it 100% right the first time. Everyone involved did there best and the Detroit chapter was impressed. If you have ever been to the Cali show you are spoiled because that show started it all and is where all things cool come from. Alan and his crew kicked some major *** to pull this off and they need to be thanked! I hope to see you all in Detroit in June.
