alright fellas I've found my dream car a 1940 ford i found it at a horse ranch its pretty complete minus interior ,engine, running boards ,no rust. I guess the guy tried chopping it when he was younger the chops decent but he never finished the rear gl*** area needs alot work to rechop it and fix the angle of the chop to my liking. anyways he wants $4,800 for it is that a good price or way to much? I will post pictures as woo. As I can of the ranch
4800 for a 40 Ford coupe with no rust seems like a bargain to me. My only worry would be the chop work that's done but not finished. Are you pretty experienced in top chopping, do you know what you're looking at? If so, I'd say go for it. If you're not sure, grab another HAMBer with roof-cutting experience and have them look at it. A butchered top could be a real ***** to fix, and sometimes they look good but really aren't. Got any pictures?
The easiest way to permanently screw up a '40 Ford coupe is to chop the top. A few are done well, but way more leave the vehicle disfigured for life. Depending on your metalworking skill, ambition, and dedication, you might proceed with caution.
The only picture I have right now isn't really good I'll post it anyway but I will take a better picture. I haven't chopped a car myself but I've watched and studied top chopping methods I know how to chop a car just haven't done it yet , but with this ford I think I would have to add less than an inch into the a pillar to get the angle I want ,that might get tricky but other than that i have no other worries
one option could be to get it and find a new roof section, then you can basically start over with the chop. I agree with the reply above about 40s and chopping them, makes the windows too small and makes everything look out of proportion, but thats just me
well the good thing is the window frame I'd uncut. Its in original size I'm linda worried about the left and right side sheetmetal of the window frame since the roof was chopped and moved forward the rear doesn't line up with the bottom section of roof just right above belt line I'm not quit sure how to fix that and I don't want to cut into the roof and make it longer
looks like someone really screwed that chop up. thats why it's sitting there unfinished. good luck with it.
Maybe you could make it into a convertible with a chopped windshield. Would still take some work and skill but is possible.
I looked at the bottom corner of the picture and expected to see a Trosley signature. I thought that car looked like it came out of the old Cartoons magazine.
Hmmm..Looks to be pointing to a ranch in Bakersfield,CA...Ask around in the Bakersfield area, and I'll bet you someone knows where it is..Not too many places in Bakersfield, but they do stash away the good stuff...
please email me and tell me where this is im in bakersfield and would love to find out this location!
make sure you pilfer all you want out of the location........then let them all know.......1st come, 1st served.... Love the "Cartoons" quote..
Use that shell, plus the untouched roof of a rusted hulk of a '40 coupe, to make yourself a nice little hot rod. It's worth every penny of $4800, even cut up and ugly as it is.
