I have a set of vortec heads on a early 70s small block chevy and want to put a set of block hugger headers on it,anyone know if the ones speedway sells for $60 will fit the exhaust ports,or if the D ports are needed also which gaskets are the best to use thanks .

the heads on my ZZ4 are D shaped ports and regular headers fit fine. i've never heard of anyone having problems with regular headers either, my guess is youd be fine. Usually the header tubes are way bigger then the port itself anyway.

Check the gasket match and go from there but I am like Bondoboy in that I think you won't have a problem.

The only difference that I can tell on the vortecs is that the port is slightly (1/4" or less) higher (or lower, can't remember!) than traditional heads. But the bolt holes are higher too, so it is irrellavent unless your clearances are that tight.

This might be a shocking suggestion, but have you asked Speedway? The guys on their tech/order line have always been friendly and helpful when I called......

Standard headers will fit just fine on a set of vortec heads. I have ran them for years on a '70's small block in my pickup truck.
