Howdy, Im an eighteen year old kid, and I'm looking for my first rod to wrench on in college. I was wondering if some of the old hands could help me out on this one. See, my pops, he's an original fifties rodder, but he thinks that I'll be wasting my time on building a rod, you dig? Guess he thinks that I won't hit the books, but I will, just with my head. Anyhoo, Wanted to know if this model A is worth the time and effort to take to "hot rod" level, even if I do stick a ford four in there. Here's the link for it. http://www.cl***icalg***tation.com/1475s.htm Gimme a holler and your two cents, maybe I am just a punk kid, who cares? -Crew
6 grand? Seems pretty steep for what yer gettin. Body's in decent shape, but i wouldn't be willing to lay out 6 g's for that. I would keep looking around. You should be able to pick up a good body and frame for a couple grand or less. Good luck!
Go for it, but, Get the four banger out your head, real pricey and no power. Go 350 chebby for your first rod and enjoy it, learn and don't spend money..............
I don't think so. It's priced pretty high for a coupe with the top sawed off. You don't want to run the Mustang 2 front end without fenders, looks like ****. Go here and see what you can find. www.fordbarn.com Dean
Since you're talking about college, I ***ume you wont have big$$$ to spend on it... Hell Im not in school and I dont have a lot of money either... I say better deals can be had...And yeah forget the 4 unless its a turbo 2.3 or something.... Have patience(sp?) and keep saving your dough in the mean time.... -J.
Thanks, fellas. I appreciate it. I dunno about the chebby, between me and my father, chebbys are kinda taboo. Can you imagine, coming home from college in an a powered by a chebby! He'd **** a brick and I'd be red with embar***ment! I think a cheaper body and such would be desirable, though. -Crew
That thing isn't worth anywhere near $6K. For starters, it's not a roadster, it looks like a sport coupe with the top chopped off. Not to say that it couldn't be cool, but it does bring the price down considerably as far as starter materials go. A frames are cheap, and for reference, you could pick up a brand new Brookville roadster '31 body for the same price and be better off. I've seen stuff in the HAMB cl***ifieds go for a fraction of that price that were great projects, and in some cases, even running cars. Be patient and wait for something worthy of your time, 'cause you'll be spending a lot of it.
Okey dokey, good deal, didn't know cl*** gas was ****py. Thanks for the headsup. I'll stick to the plastick rods for now, I guess. -Crew
Fords 2300 can carry a small car very well with a little tweeking. If fuel price keep raising I think we will see more 4 cly. rides.
P of C P***........the frame is junk, the body is not hardly worth fixing and the top is a abortion. The little motor and 5 speed can be bought for less than $500. It even has a 4 lug rear. Looks like a $700 Model A with a $500 Mustang II donor car........all put together with a $99 welder from Sears. P*** P*** P***
I agree with all the guys that say they are rip offs. I've been up there a couple of times and you can usually guarantee that the actual car looks 10 times worse in person than it does in the picture. I totally agree with Tman, they are crooks. sled
I'd p*** too. By the time you take off everything you don't want you're paying 6k for a body and frame. Keep on shopping bro, and as someone said, the cl***ifieds here are full of deals
I agree, watch Cl***ical Gas Station. The stuff that they have is way over priced and lots of its pretty ****py. It's too bad when some folks out there want to retire on the sale of a few pieces of old tin. I've always suspected that a guy could do ok selling honestly described old cars for fair prices. I've looked at several cars when I've been by Cl***ical and they've all been very high priced for what they are. Better off checking fordbarn or the H.A.M.B. cl***ifieds and just waiting around to find a better deal on a better car. Six grand for that car is just too much.
Well knowmatter what we think about this car you have to be happy. If you like it then get it. Of course it is way to high but in the end will you be happy. The coupe I bought this winter needed alot of work and my pops said it would but that was the car I wanted so I got it. If you like it then get it. You can sell the mustang 2 front clip anyday on e-bay and you can find another A-frame for 100-150.00. Channel the body over the new frame and we will all like it then. Good luck.
Time + Money + Fabrication/building/knowledge = hot rod If you are lacking any one of those... you'd better have more of the others. If you're lacking TWO of those things... you'd better have a ****LOAD of the other one. Sam.

You can normally find one of these for around 7 grand or so. http://www.cars-on-line.com/29shay15685.html
Crewcutkid, the best thing you did was ask for advice. So many people who are not sure just lay down the dollars and more often than not regret it later. Even though there are many views on the car you are looking at it is all advice. I have always beieved that patience is the best way when you are looking for something. Like most that have posted I think that what you are looking at is way over priced. Hey and try and get your dad on side, as an old hot rodder it may be just what he needs in his life, you can share with him what he went through as a young hot rodder
[ QUOTE ] Watch Cl***ical Gas, they are crooks! Lots of the **** they sell is patched up ****. [/ QUOTE ] I was there last year. Some nice stuff but mostly piles of ****. For that price you could find a much more complete stocker and do it your way, not finish off somebody else's headache.
Yeah, Your'e probably right, as far as finding an A in pristine condition, I'm kinda shocked! NE way, Iv'e been tryin for years to get my old man to buy his dream bucket, a '40 ford, and restore and/or hotrod it, but I guess it's the ol "greenback" issue- "Not enough cash, or space in the garage." Oh, well, tough ****, maybe I'll find a Harley Panhead or Flathead Six engine to tinker with (least it won't take up much space). Thanks for the advice, y'all. -Crew
Where do you live kid? I come across rough T bodies and such here in South Dakota. If it was the style you would want to build you could have soemething cheap to start with?
Crew listen to the Zen-like, if occasionally snarly, wisdom of the HAMB. You can build an entire way slick trad-style bucket or minimalist roadster for less than that rolling abortion costs. Start slow, read lots-everything you can get your hands on, look at many pics, ask many questions, prowl the shows, swaps & cl***ifieds, network like mad, HAMB it often, and take a couple years to build so you can piecemeal the finances. Enjoy the journey and you'll enjoy your ride.
[ QUOTE ] Crew listen to the Zen-like, if occasionally snarly, wisdom ... [/ QUOTE ] Zen like? Is that like the sound of one cheek farting?
Stay away from that claptrap pictured. The independant front suspension ALONE would be the big red flag for me. Save up your money in college and do tons and tons or research. You'll be better off in the long run and really know what to look for. You could always pick up something cool along the way, but do enough research to know what you are getting. You'll realize how smart dear ol' dad is years from now, but I know how you feel. My dad played around with cars in his twenties (and was an airplane mechanic for almost 50 years) and doesn't understand why I want to mess around with old cars now. They weren't old cars when he was doing it.
Dude, I had a CHERRY show condition, former trophy queen chevelle in college... It STILL took some time away from my beer and ****tang budget... GO TO CL***... EVERYDAY... even hungover... do your homework... sleep a tiny bit, and FREAKIN PARTY... Remember, "You're not there for a long time, you're there for a good time." and, "D is for Diploma" in other words, get a honda!!!! Unless, you're one of those weirdos who prefers cars to ***s and beer, then knock yourself out...
Haw haw... ***s and beer... Well, I guess my coug will haul my sorry *** around for now, but those rough t bodies sound interesting, but judging by the advice given, I need more'n a body to start. Ahh, mebbe a muscle car is the route to go fer now. -Crew By the way, I'm in Colorado, fellas.
