What is the best way to lower the front of my 47 Ford? -change cross-member, suppose to to be 3"($100) -dropped axle, 4" but would have to buy new steering arms($400) -reverse eye spring, suppose to be 3"($140) anybody have any experience with the cross-member or spring? do they actually drop a full 3"? thanks for any help, and sorry if this had been covered before, I did a quick search and didn't see anything.
As I recall, the dropped crossmember is a Speedway item. They have always been helpful when I called to talk to their tech/order folks. The combination of a dropped axle and a reversed eye spring will certainly put it in the dirt; personally, I would buy stuff one item at a time until it got to the right height.
speedway says the spring is for use with stock axle and crossmember. I'm thinking the spring or crossmember might be the way to go, that way none of the steering parts should be affected....??
the car already has longer shackles, I wasn't sure if it that was a good idea or not?? I guess with the factory track bar the axle should stay centered under the car and not affect steering.
You cannot combine the lowered crossmember with the lowered spring and axle. I used Ch***is Engineering stuff on mine when I built it. Dropped axle and reversed eye spring. It rode OK.
I bought the posies in da weeds kit. Drop axle/spring. Real nice only real expensive. I got the whole kit with the disc brakes...1600 ouch... Also made lower shackles. Tweeked the crossmember. Have yet to get the fenders bacl on with it complete. I dont think you can use the crossmembers with the flathead or at least they say you cant. That would be a factor depending on your motor.
