Check this thing out! Pretty Trad. But it is European so I am not sure how some of the picky guys might feel about this But I dig it big time. 8L motor in a 3L ch***is and Twin Turbos. This thing is a total English hot rod. The link to the video has Leno describing the car and then there is some nice driving action. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_player.shtml?vid=224957
Everything is cool except the radials look out of place. Too low of a profile for that car. Some period reproduction racing tires would make it perfect - except for maybe the driving part.
"Here in the Bently section of my garage" Man, Jay is cool, a real car guy rather than just a collector for the sake of investment. I'd love to spend a day plundering in that garage.
The stuff Jay has in his garages is amazing. He's a guy who truly loves the cars and every single one of them is functional and driveable. Kudos to that.
"Goin' to the Proctologist for dental work"....Cl***ic Jay Leno. That's one guy that I'd like to spend a day (or ten) with. Seems like a real guy, and talk about knowin his ****!!! What a guy!!!!
Most people would kill to have his car collection. I'd settle just to have his knowledge. What an appropriate curator for this collection. He's a dying breed I'm afraid. HERO.
Gotta love the line, "Yeah, the Duesenberg guys really tick me off, 'cause most of them put their cars in a museum". Oh, and and the one about having to tear the engine down (solid block) to do valve work "It's kinda like going to a proctologist to have your dental work done".
It's hard to hate the guy even though he is so rich. And has so so so much cool stuff. He knows his stuff and drives all of it and doesn't have a huge ego. I remember him mentioning the exhaust on his Mclaren cost $45,000 to replace. He said it like it was crazy I think most rich guys would be all smug like it is a source of pride.
Forgot to mention the body is wood with some leather or something stretched over it. be pretty cool to do a hot rod up like that.
The body is VandenPlas "styled" touring (I don't want to call it a Vanden Plas touring, as the body is probably not original), which was the same type of body that Bentley used for it's Leman's cars. The body is wood framed, with treated fabric (leatherette-ish stuff)over it. Very cool car. Also those tyres are not radials.
I think those are Dunlop R1 Vintage Racing Tires... See pic. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...unlop+racing+historic+r1+car&gbv=2&hl=en&sa=G
You might be right. The still don't look right to me - could be I'm used to seeing taller and skinny tires on cars of that vintage.
Why in the hell would you hate the guy for being rich? He worked for it, especially in the early days. He saves his talk show money for his retirement, and does standup on weekends to pay the bills and buy cars. Who wouldn't like to spend a day with the guy talking cars? Hell, who wouldn't like to have his resources to collect what you like? The people at Pebble Beach whose cars he beat don't hate him either.
