i picked up a small motorcycle horn for my A. It's bolted on iside the frame rail on the passenger side. I think it was chrome but i painted it black to hide it even further. you'd never know it was there, but i painted it anyway. It's pretty loud, even mildly annoying. you could always get one of those bicycle squeeky ones!

  9. Second on the bike horn; they are small and used to living in the weather. You probably have one laying around the shop, I may have one if you don't, let me know.

The temptation to run a dixie horn is almost overwhelming sometimes ... maybe it's just me. Even one of those La Cocaracha horns would be tits.

I am a commercial paint contractor.I currently have three of each of these stores underway has we speak...that's the only time i walk in to them napa and standard that's a different tune that where my kids and my money goes.

  12. VW Bug horn.

    Small, no relay needed.

They sound a lot like a RoadRunner horn.

Fairly reasonable at a 'Dub store.

If you can, get the one made in Germany.
The made in Mexico horn works fine, but the German model comes with a vibration isolater.
(A couple strips of spring steel you may be able to see in the photo.)
Without the isolater, it sounds terrible.

I used a re-pop '69 Roadrunner horn as a tribute to my highschool car.

I went to Napa and bought a standard horn. I push the button, it makes noise, case solved. Its not much bigger than the one C9 posted, but it sounds retarded.

So you guys are saying that a roadrunner horn actually sounds like the cartoon character (WHAT YEAR) Please dont make these guys pull out the popcorn on me!!!!!!

  19. Unbolt the horn - leave it connected.

Hold it in your hand, honk it.

    Sound the same?

Bolt it back on and forget it.

    Sound better?

    You need a vibration isolater.

check out your local pull a part yard and look for an old cadillac. they had four horns that sound kinda like a train, might be hard to hide though. some buicks had three horns for a little different sound

  23. How old of a Caddy?

I heard the horn on about a ten year old Cad at the tire shop.
    Plenty of volume, nice sound.

The two horn setups in days gone by were tuned to a chord.
They had a nice sound and were hard to miss.

Consider running two different horn setups.
The little Dub horns I posted above are useful in parking lots etc. and a short tap ain't gonna wake up the world and piss people off.

The other horn can be seriously loud for general driving.

I've set em up two ways, one way is to have a switch that selects either horn and operates from the regular horn button.
The other is to have a separate button for one of the horns and the stock horn is operated from the regular horn button.

Been thinking about doing that on the 31, course the 2nd horn would be under the rear bumper pointed to the rear . . . and loud....

12 volt marine horn, same size as a regular car horn, sounds about the same, and chrome to boot.
