In my middle school library, there were a few books from the 60's about car customizing. I remember one had a chapter on Ed Roth, one chapter on customizing a Galaxie or Fairlane with Meteor Parts, and custom model cars in the back. Anyone might know what this book is called and/or the author? Id appreciate it, those old books were awesome. Thanks Blake
I remember that one too. The Galaxie was a '60 and they put the Canadian grille in it. Roth had one of his bubble cars in there and an orange '55 Chevy. And do I remember a '56 Olds that some kid paints gold and does some customizing on it too? I don't remember the name of the book but I do remember it. I think it was put out by Hot Rod or Rod and Custom. Hardcover book, I used to have a copy. Wish I still did.
Try hitting eBay and half.com and just search for ***les that might be right (try words like "custom" and "customizing"). I got a cheesy early '70s book full of late '50s kustoms for less than $10 bucks. It was from a grade school library's discards! (Sorry, it's not the book you're thinking of, it was called "Grease Machines" and there are no how-to articles at all.)
I know the book your talking about. There was one on e-bay way back, I used to have it saved in my favorites but got rid of it when the price went to high on it. My grandmother, rest her soul, use to be a librarian in Richmond Virginia. We use to have the Richmond Library on Sundays to run around in when we were little. That book was there. There were a lot of thin hardback books back then for kids.I look for all those books on e-bay, but they are hard to find ,wish I could help!
They are on ebay occasionally, usually bring 40 - 50 bucks. pretty good feature on Roths Mysterion with build up shots. also his 55 chev, and an article on how to customize a 60 ford and some misc show coverage etc. I think it was written by Henry Gregor Felsen.
It was one of a series of books. Edited by Felson with chapters by Roth, Mickey Thompson and others. I picked up a copy a couple of years ago at Hershey for $5!
