Report him to the lawmen for saying he is/was a lawyer. You cannot represent yourself as on officer of the (any) court at any time. Can't call yourself a lawyer without passing the bar exam and being admitted to the club. He'd get a slap on the wrist (fnes usually about 1k) but the pressure is what you're after. Even better..call the anonymous drug hotline and tell them he's a meth dealer selling out of the hotel!

Pete..not sure if it will work for you but my local police took care of the issue. I couldn't have been more pleased with the way he handled it. I've had experiances where cops just didn't care. All they worried about was how much paper work they had to do. Not this cop. He worked hard for us. Hell it was only $150 but he treated it like it was my life savings. He explained not to accept a partial payment and the whole loss of licence part.

So how did you get screwed for 12 g's? I would like to know it could save me or a few others some trouble in the future.

  15. What really pisses me off is that both of these guys tried to screw Pete because he is from Australia and they don't think they'll get caught. I helped Pete with some information and law enforcement contacts on the SD guy that tried to screw him and he is paying it back now. I know the young man and thought he was OK until he pulled this on Pete. No one from my state is going to pull this shit on someone and think they'll get away with it. If someone pulls this crap, it reflects on me, my hobby, my state and even my country. If I stand by and do nothing, it means I condone it.

Pete is a stand up guy and he trusted these people to be straight in their dealings with him. I have done the same thing many times and haven't been screwed, but I came close a few times. For the most part hot rodders are a great bunch of people but there are always a few rotten apples. Its up to us to throw them out.

Well, to be accurate, that's your lawyer. The lawyers who work for me are on my side and therefore, honest.

That ain't always true. I'm 44 and thinking of retiring in the next year or two. If he is a lawyer and still licenesed, you can try the CO Supreme Court or whatever entity they use for licensing and file a complaint. If he's at all interested in keeping his license, that will get his attention.

..Hi He may or may not be a lawyer ,that can be found out by getting in contact with the Bar Asocation in the state he is in... And if he is what he claims file a complaint with them....If they find him wrong they will act...In my state New Jersey the Bar will take complaints about Lawyers and if your are correct then they will make him correct the issue or he will hit the road...I seen this done to a lawyer by an inmate for over charging him, the inmate got a refund...Also a photo of the guy would be great..In many states a photo driver licenses is required...If he has an arrest record you may be able to get a photo of him there...As others have stated he has to go.. I have no use for anyone that does that to a fellow hot rodder....Miller

Thanks again guys. The Sheriff in SD who has been helping me recover money from another guy sent me the link to this site.

    http://www.ic3.gov/

Apparently they forward the compliant to appropiate agancy so will be doing that. Will keep you all informed of the situation.

I went through all this a few months ago (chicken scratch compared to you). Basically you can do what ic3 does on your own but quicker.

You need to contact his local law enforcement and see if they have an internet crime division. Most larger cities do. Most won't fool with anything under $4000 or so but you are over that.

You will then (to make things official quicker) make the complaint at your local police station. It was a couple months before I got a phone call concerning the IC3 compliant but by then I already had my money back. Yours is a lot more money so it may get more attention than mine though.

You know what Waylon said...."be carefull of somethin that's just what you want it to be".

Another thing, one time I had something similar happen. A lot less money though. It seems his mother was a very good sort of person and was very ashamed when she found out what type of person her little angel really was. After hearing the story and her getting convinced it was him, all my facts, and her knowing he was having money troubles right about the same time. She actually sent me the money back after a few weeks. I don't know if it was hers or his, but it didn't matter to me, it was only $550.00. Crazy what the deepest shame with the most important person in your life can accomplish sometimes. Maybe those parents need an evening call ?

Just so everyone is on the same page. When Pete first asked questions here about Paul Webster, he was in or around Prior Lake MN and that is where he sent the money / bank transfer to. Searches on his name through several of internet search engines (such as the zabasearch listed above) showed multiple previous MN addresses. This allowed Pete some info and he called one person listed a relative of Paul with an address in Prior Lake. The person Pete called was in fact a relative and did help Pete get in touch with Paul. This validates that Paul Webster is his real name and that he has a strong tie to the Minneapolis area. Pete was given the info to contact local police, and State agencies that could help him. Pete never did update us on how these locals were working to help him out and with whom he was actually working. The current info states that he claims to be a "Retired advogado" which is supposedly a Brazilian Portuguese term for lawyer. From what I found here in MN he is not currently listed as active in the Judiciary or with the MN Bar. That doesn't mean that he never was or he might even be using the term advogado in an obscure way in an attempt to make himself look more important than he really is. Of course this also assumes that if he was a lawyer he was licensed in MN, because he has such a long history here.

Since then Pete has tracked his move to Co. It looks like he may actually have bought the Motel listed above, as he lists the main number for the motel as his personal phone. The bad news for Pete is that the Co locals probably will do less than the MN locals, as they really don't have jurisdiction over the case :-( They might still be receptive though as I don't think any enforcement officer wants a slimball like that in their neighborhood.

Pete, all I can say is good luck, keep on the guy. I doubt you will get your car but hopefully you will get your money back, and hopefully someone takes this seriously and gets this slime put behind bars!

He's on eBay...sounds like he's an upstanding citizen there too:

    <table bgcolor="#ffffe5" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td rowspan="3" bgcolor="#ffffe5" width="10">

Simplest explanation for 0 with 50% would be 1 positive, 1 negative.
